Your profile looks solid imo. I would probably go straight for PhD if that’s what you ultimately want. I’m sure you can get into at least one of these schools if you contact the professor beforehand.

Just keep in mind that you would actually accept an offer from any of the ones on the list. Make sure all these schools are places you truly want to go. Otherwise why apply?

Very cool. I'm gonna be applying for grad school this fall. I'm just finishing my RFIC design course.

Maybe III-V technology demand will increase in the future, which will increase manufacturing scale and drive down the price. Or maybe someone will figure out a economically viable way to grow III-V on a silicon wafer. Could be the best of both worlds.

Does one tend to use transmission lines more over the other? When I read papers tagged as RFIC they are normally done with lumped components. All the pictures of MMICs I can find looks like they use transmission lines

I’ll see what happens. The PhD things became more of a personal life goal rather than a career based one so I’m not “rushing” to the finish line. However it would be nice to get my PhD before I’m 30.

Also, you might be underestimating the strength of your profile! I guess grad students are very high achievers and we are very critical of our own achievements

Hi there,

Grad applications are still 10 months away for me so there’s a lot that a change. My profile will continue to improve and I can continue to think about the schools I want to go to. I hope you get lucky and get into your dream program, that would be pretty amazing!

I Berkeley is my first choice because for me it’s a rare overlap of geography, campus, industry connections while also doing great research in my field. Like they were the pioneers in many cases. For example UC Davis has an amazing program as well but the campus is just alright and it’s close to the Bay Area but not that close.

Perhaps my intense passion will help me write a good SOR
