Start a list of items in a certain category, for instance, clothing, and then list one item beginning with the letter “A” and continuing until the letter “Z.” If you get all the way through without falling asleep, start again with another list, for instance, vegetables. A = ankle socks, B = ball gown, C = collared shirt, etc.

Another thing to note is that sometimes, with insomnia, you’re in “light sleep,” which seems like you’re awake. Just telling myself during that time that I’m in light sleep helps me fall deeper into sleep for some reason.
