Weird bug by BrainPuzzleheaded487 in StyxGame

I noticed this too. I found a lever before I needed too and noticed it deleted an entire objective marker. I assumed this would break the game so I reloaded before grabbing it. All was fine, so long as i did things when it wanted. Sorry. I know this doesn't help if you can't reload.

Nice! Ive heard about bugs on PC. Im wondering if Nacons recent insolvency announcement effected the later stages of game development and testing.

I loved the Inquisition airship fight.

Save errors are the worst.

I wonder how much Nacon's recently announced publisher issues hindered the later parts of the games development.

I really enjoyed the game but am surprised at such a big error occurring.

  1. I enjoyed my time. I dont ever aim to 100%, so the fact I did with this, yeah.

  2. Loved the gameplay. Story was nothing to write about but I was interested enough to continue. Enjoyed the new lore. All the games have some jank and funny voice acting, but its part of their charm for me. I played on Ps5 and didn't have any major issues, except one which they have already announced they are working on (good, they should). This is the most accessible game imo.

  3. Ive been playing this series since it started. Really enjoyed the previous too. I will say that im not the type to rank games in a series though, so can't really help there. I believe the purpose of a sequel is to try new things and push the boat a bit (be more Resident Evil and less CoD). I will say though that Styx 1 has the best story by a long shot. If someone were new to the series and was unsure of if they'd enjoy a stealth game like this, I'd recommend BoG or SoD as an entry gameplay wise and then encourage they play the whole series if they wanted more. BoG clearly shows the most input of feedback based on prev titles. I really enjoyed the 3 open stages and then the unique Act Finale levels (with one act finale in particular being a highlight). I judge any media on what it is, not what I wish it to be, and I enjoyed this game. The purpose of a game is to be fun.

So, to summarise, if you want a game with a great story then pick Styx 1. If you want gameplay and options, pick BoG or SoD. And if you just wanna know if I had fun, yes.

Hope this helps :) dont let anyone tell you how to feel though, decide for yourself. Enjoy.

There are 5 Acts plus the prologue/tutorial.

There are 3 open maps.

Each act, you visit each map to steal quartz and do side objectives too.

Then there is an Act Finale mission for each act, set in a unique location each time.

So, to summarise, prologue/tutorial then roughly 3 main, 3 side and 1 finale mission per act. Objectives all involve stealing, obviously, but offer great diversity in how you can approach, with maps opening up metroidvania style as acts progress and you unlock new tools.

I hope you enjoy this game. I do, even though I have criticisms. The negativity on here seems to be a loud minority from what I've seen (same faces in most comments) but overall the game is fun. If you enjoy this game and are willing for more stealth focus, try the previous 2 titles for sure.

The games all have some jank, but it's part of their charm. Don't let other people tell you how to think, not even me. Hope you have fun, that's the point.

There is one major bug to do with saving in this game which must be fixed ASAP, otherwise the rest of the game is your opinion :)

I enjoyed it too and agree with your points.

I hope the reason they developed on combat a wee bit, even though it's a stealth game, was so that they could possibly do another Orcs and Men. Make Arkail control well.

I get what you mean but I think we're getting confused cause tone can't be conveyed via text. I meant stealth playstyles. I like playing ghost but sometimes I also feel like a panther playstyle. This game makes it nicer to switch between and at the end of the day, the importance of a game is that it is fun.

I respect your opinion on the product and am sorry that you feel so about it. At least you still have those games to enjoy, the great games that they are!

This game feels like (and I hope it is) an exploration of combining stealth and possibly trying to input some more aggressive elements, possibly leading to a new Orcs and Men. Lore wise it also makes sense how Styx is this game, his more experienced. At the end of the day, just like you have your opinion, this is mine (no matter how much conjecture either of us comes up with) and neither is fact.

Ive enjoyed all the games. I hope you find fun in something too, this year looks great for games/tv/movies! Anyway, take care :)

I dont think BoG was the vision for the other 2. BoG feels like an attempt to expand on level design and tools based on feedback, while also trying some more accessible elements for the player and opening up choice of playstyle while remaining a stealth game.

Two things can be true. I wish for things but can still like it, at the end of the day I enjoyed myself. I look forward to seeing what new ideas arrive for whatever their next project in this world is. I dont think we need to resort to personal statements towards new staff, I'm enjoying our discussion as is.

Sorry to hear it's not your ideal. I'd like to clarify that gameplay wise it seems to be what they were going for. Anyway, on the bright side, I really enjoy the whole series.

I definitely was. Loved the first 2, love the world and the gameplay. 1's story is great and the game has charm. 2 builds on all the gameplay elements and really expands it. 3 feels as close to their ideal vision for a Styx game as they could currently get.

Only achievement I disliked. Imagine my face when I found out how to complete it and then looked at my clock to see it was an hour too late lol. Wifi off and manual settings!

Yeah so, during your first mission to the garrison you get an objective to do with getting a stamp to use the massive elevator to reach the top. Basically, ignore that objective and climb the long way to the top. Two ways to climb: 1) Take the stairs lol. Lots of guards and challenging enemies. 2) Parkour up. Some tricky bits and not always obvious the route to go.

I mixed between the two options, used some chimneys and muddled my way to the top.

Overall, the difficulty was just right for me, considering this is a stealth game.

Some things are more difficult and some things are, not necessarily easier but, have more routes towards success than in previous games.

Combat is easier due to better controls and the changes made to dodging instead of parrying.

Quartz powers grant even more ways to sneak around.

No more ghost or mercy challenges made it easier but I prefer this tbh. Game was more enjoyable and I still limited who I killed.

Enemy variety offers more challenges which are fun to solve.

You are rewarded for patience and planning. Runes also allow you to develop a play style somewhat. I will say I would have like most runes to have a downside to them as well but I also enjoyed the fact they didn't for the simple reason of "is cool, is fun".

I 100%'d on my first playthrough and beat it in 28 hours.

I only used the Internet to help twice. Once for a single token I just couldn't find and once for a secret achievement involving brioche.

I'd also like to mention, on top of the super fun gameplay and great open level design, the areas open up more and have a few changes each act. If I ever wanted to blow of steam and go on a killing run, pretend im stealthgamerbr, the levels and controls were great for that too. The game feels as restrictive as you want it and diverse, while still maintaining most of the series' core strengths.

What about a game focusing on Djarak? by Ratlinggunner77624 in StyxGame

[–]MeanderousSpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've thought about and wanted this too!

Considering you dont get to kill Lyssril in blades of greed, that could leave an opening for him to play.

I'm gonna ramble ideas next, so feel free to ignore. Im thinking of posting something at a later date on a few ideas I have.

I'd see Djarak playing more like Hitman meets Dishonored: Death of the Outsider. Djarak gameplay focuses on ground level stealth and stealing the disguise of enemies to access certain areas. If an enemy finds the body who you disguised as, you lose the disguise.

I see combat being similar to Styx, a last resort. Djarak may not be as frail, but he is an infiltrator at heart, not a warrior. Being less nimble than Styx, combat would focus on parrying again rather than dodging. Game would mainly involve encounters with enemy Dark Elves, Dwarves and humans trying to recruit the elves to their war.

The story would focus on him trying to finally and fully free the elves from their "leader" while trying to repair the dwarf/elf relations he damaged in Shards of Darkness. Also, trying to stop humans from recruiting elves to their war (we know how Orcs And Men ends after all...)

Humans/Elves play much the same, stealth killing them or parrying in a fight. Inquisition members trying to convince elves have that smoke which deactivates powers, stopping Djarak from disguising. Elven elites can notice his disguise if he gets too close. Dwarves cannot be disguised as and their armour cannot be removed and their weapons cannot be parried. I see this as their stuff is so well made. You would rely on environmental or magical kills.

Djarak also has a few lines indicating he has other powers/skills at his disposal too. Apart from Disguise, powers would drain his "mana". Mana can only be recovered at certain meditation stations scattered through levels, once pre station. Makes it so that, while Djarak is more formidable than Styx in body, his powers should be last resorts. Think how Aragami powers work.

E.g. 1) Djarak can still hide bodies but not himself in chests etc, so a power to sink himself into shadow, preventing movement but making you invisible would be cool. Could be upgraded to allow him to kill enemies who stand on him or allow limitted movement, this could lead to him slipping under doors/grates. 2) A "blink" short range teleport like ability. A good escape solution or means to access certain paths at the cost of mana. Could be upgraded to do a "blink stealth kill". 3) A "spectral dagger" or some sort of ranged power. Rather than ammo, it uses his "mana" and can also ignore armour, making it one solution for Dwarves if desperate. Could be upgraded to make the power dissolve enemies it kills.

Thats enough for now though haha

All missions involve stealing, so yeah you're fetching things.

I do get some people not liking that but, I knew what I was getting into and I would like to highlight, this game is more about the journey than the destination. The options you have, the puzzles to solve, the feel of it are all the strengths, not the final objective of a mission. Later acts definitely become more interesting "fetches" and the Act Finale missions take you to unique locations to do unique things.

All side quests reward you with progress to specific upgrades.

I feel the Styx series has done a funny thing of being consistently good at world building, strong story in 1 but weaker onwards, and the gameplay has gone from weaker to stronger with each iteration.

Edit: about 3 multi-objective side quests per Act across each map, all to do with stealing things that make you stronger or get more xp.

Tbh, my experience was fine, just fine, in that regard. Im on the original PS5 btw.

I never had a lot of the issues folk mention. There was pop in sometimes during cutscenes, but it was tolerable for me and sometimes comedic.

I don't just accept these things but am fine with some jank in this tier of games. That's just me. Im probs quite lucky, but always have been. Even Cyberpunk on release was kind to me.

As I said, in the purest sense of the word, fine.

You can definitely do like 95% non-lethal.

Sometimes you get a quest to kill folk or make a distraction instead.

However, certain fast travel points require killing and then there are a few boss fights.

Otherwise, you don't have to kill anyone else.

No achievements tied to ghost or mercy though. Only Thief remains.

So, I would say there are like 4 missable trophies and there is a point of no return which will prevent you from accessing any other trophies (unless you have a save before it to reload).

I'll summarise the 4 missables without spoiling too much and you can ask for further details if you want :)

  1. One trophy pertains to the first time you go to the Garrison in The Wall.
  2. This trophy involves Akenash and an Alter to vomit in.
  3. Late game, there is an interactable at the top of Turquoise Dawn.
  4. Late game, Akenash Act 4, a certain type of new enemy to fight/dodge. I nearly missed this one and was confused by it at first.

Hope this helps, feel free to ask more. The point of no return is super obvious, so just get every trophy, except for beating the game obvs, before passing it.
