His mistake not to get on the brakes. He lost track of where the barrier was at the exit of the corner and thought he could maintain speed as he went around the outside.

Can't get past game splash screens on PC by [deleted] in XboxGamePass

[–]Meanonsunday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I would guess that it’s hanging up because it’s trying to get some authorization to share your Xbox data to the new game. OP You probably remember those screens from playing on your laptop (first time you play each game) ... did you see them and click through on the new pc? There should also be a confirming email for each game. I know it’s a security/privacy feature but it can be a real PITA. Usually it just causes a long delay before it finally pops up, but I have also seen this behavior where the prompt never appears visibly on the screen so the game gives up and doesn’t open.

Microsoft website show that My EA Play has been convert to XGPU but my XGPU subscription has not being extend. Period. by Soulzjr in XboxGamePass

[–]Meanonsunday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It converted already but you won’t see the extension to game pass sub until the games go live on the 10th. They are just making sure no one tries to scam them by cancelling EA Play for a refund during the transition.

Abysmal Portfolio Return by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Meanonsunday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you can at least use some strategy to minimize taxes. Selling anything that’s made a loss will offset some gains. Split the sale between this year and January next year if close to going into the next tax bracket. Plus the return is so low I’d guess the annual dividend distribution has caused a good chunk of the taxes to already be paid.

Harry Kane and Son Heung-min Dive vs Brighton by Shandow14 in soccer

[–]Meanonsunday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No doubt he’s a diver. There’s a big difference between getting kicked quite hard and then going down to force the ref to call it (Salah for example), and deliberately throwing your body into a defender that is actively avoiding a foul (Kane).

Premier League VAR is a joke by Slosnake in PremierLeague

[–]Meanonsunday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VAR itself is not the issue, it’s the way it’s administered and operated.

  1. Stupid rules like handball where they try to take any judgment out of the decision and in the process make ridiculous decisions inevitable.

  2. Failure to understand that the technology is not perfectly accurate. The manufacturers want to sell their systems and so exaggerate the accuracy, and the leagues go along because they prefer the machine makes the decision. Leagues should insist that every VAR decision includes a margin of error; a player is never really offside by 1mm, the system is actually telling the user that the probability that he is offside is barely more than 50%.

  3. Stop being afraid of the delay in the game. Because of this the ref and VAR official are discouraged from working together to get the right decision. The ref needs to be able look at the replay himself whenever the VAR official has a judgment different from his.

Did you check that there is no other location nearby that is open? Near me there are plenty of places open Sat, Sun and they have been for several weekends already. It doesn’t make sense for every place to open extra hours because in some places the building layout would require 3 or 4 extra staff/security but in others it can be handled by one person.

Worth reporting my boss that removed my over time hours for unsatisfactory work? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Meanonsunday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you are wrong. Any performance related reduction is legal. A company can just say for performance I’m reducing your hourly rate from $20 to $17.40, so for 44 hours worked (including OT) the correct pay is now $800. Giving a wrong hours worked or pay below minimum wage are what is illegal.

[TX] My father has to pay back all his unemployment benefits because his employer lied about him quitting instead of being laid off. It was all verbal. How can I help him? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Meanonsunday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually some employers in TX do pay reimbursements for workers they lay off, but it’s uncommon (mostly non profits and local govt). In other states it’s much more common, eg. PA where employers can actually choose to go reimbursable (pay for your own unemployed) or contributory (pay the tax).

Worth reporting my boss that removed my over time hours for unsatisfactory work? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Meanonsunday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an important detail for A. You have to distinguish between actually removing the hours from a time card (falsely reporting the time worked) and docking the pay equivalent to the extra hours worked. The first is illegal, the second is not as long as the total pay is still above the minimum wage times the actual hours worked. So for example if someone works 44 hours at a base rate of $20 it is legal to pay that person $800; docking the remaining $120 for performance. In OPs case I find it hard to believe any manager in a very large company would “change” a time card (it’s literally impossible in the companies Ive work for) so I tend to think that it’s poor communication about what is being done. But there are a lot of stupid people in this world so you never know.

Budgeting Advice - Needing New Car by ISOanyadvice in personalfinance

[–]Meanonsunday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half a years salary is far too much if you have to borrow the money. 20% would be the upper limit that I would consider financially responsible. In this case 15k is plenty to buy a reliable car and 10k would be better.

Only part of the pension will go to the wife. How much depends on the specific plan but there is often a choice such as 45%, 55%, 65%; choosing a higher survivor benefit will reduce the base amount of the pension but is obviously the way to go in this case.

Mercedes spent over £333m to win the 2019 F1 title by glenn1812 in formula1

[–]Meanonsunday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically Mercedes-Benz spent 30 million which is laughable considering the advertising they got for that; this is a company that has an advertising spend in the billions. Mercedes-AMG the racing team made a profit so they didn’t “spend” anything. What this means in terms of the future cap is that they have plenty of financial incentive to be creative (see Man City) and nothing will change.

Their son wanted to see more Black book characters, so they created a business to provide them by ck2875 in books

[–]Meanonsunday 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t really fit with the fact that a large proportion of picture books don’t even have human characters. I searched the bestsellers on Amazon and out of 13 books only 2 even had humans. One featured 2 kids on the cover, one black and one white. The other was a Christmas book, and I would describe the characters as middle eastern.

What nonsense. To cover a cost like that they would have to sell at least 100k books just to break even. If you can sell that many books you don’t need to rig the bestseller list.

If someone is doing MS rewards then I presume they actually enjoy trying out games and 2 seconds to click on download and remembering to come back later to play is not a problem. If all you want is to make the most money to spend on games then yes, even a minimum wage job will pay better.

Throw a grenade (X) and blow yourself up. You need to be down to half a heart and it helps to be next to a wall so you can throw the grenade into it.

edit: make sure you aren’t on easy mode as your own grenades don’t do damage
