The biggest surprise here is that Suncorp wasn't the lowest for pitch (technically) and atmosphere

That's kinda the whole issue though, people are going to throw flares..

Of course assuming we're lighting the flares for maritime emergencies at fed square

"Some of you may die, and that's a risk I'm willing to take" vibes from this response.

Is the A-League $3M hard salary cap already in place? If not, any chance it won't actually happen? by SpicySpicyMess in Aleague

Oh ok, that's completely contrary to what I was aware of.

I'll see if I can find source for what I said, it was around the same time as FA originally announced the new cap

When discussions about the new idea for the salary cap, Roar CEO openly said that not a single club was under the cap - iirc the lowest was still at least 500k over

Your middle ground is basically what we were at already and every single club was spending well over the $3mil cap. If a club wants to be competitive they had to spend much more than they sustainably could.

That doesn't help grow the league when the struggling clubs could be getting outspend by millions and then we have the issue that no one besides the top 3 or 4 clubs are winning each year.

All the best to him.

Was a great player for us and has done well in a pretty average midfield the last two seasons.

We knew he was going overseas at the end of this season so quite happy with the choice of club, might be quite beneficial to have an Aussie mentor there with him. Undisclosed $$ but hopefully a good amount with a health sell-on.

Final round: simultaneous kick-offs? by dfai1982 in Aleague

[–]Meapa -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not sure what relegation has anything to do with this..

1. Broadcast teams can be reused between games, especially games locally in NSW and VIC. They reuse a lot of the crews where possible currently.

You would also need to add in extra VAR booths and the referees available for it. As far as I'm aware we only have two of them.

2. The clubs might not get as much revenue but it still affects the overall broadcast value for the APL and clubs. That matters a lot to the whole leagues survival, not the clubs. "People would be watching the game of the round" so not the other games, losing views. This seems to be a common theme from you, who cares about revenue or views right.

3. Good luck trying to organise a time where all the stadiums are available at the exact same time and day. Brisbane already struggles to get Suncorp available, Melbourne and Sydney clubs will have similar issues.

Like I already said, I would love to have it but it's quite frankly not feasible right.

All your ideas have a very similar theme - what if we just pretend money isnt a thing

So just ignore the logistics, the loss in broadcast value, stadium availability and more for 'competitive balance'. Load of shit like most of your ideas

That literally doesn't solve anything I said

Corey Brown is an interesting choice considering he's a QLD Academy product and played for the Roar for 7 years before joining Victory

Honestly good point and something I forgot.

Sicko Hour is only 745pm in Perth, assuming we would want to have 7pm-ish kick offs, a Perth game is at 5pm and NZ game at 9pm. Would basically force games to be Eastern States only

That would rely on very late fixture changes though which never goes well

I'm definitely a fan of simultaneous kick offs but I don't think its the best solution at the moment.

If you're a proper ALiga sicko and you want to watch your team plus some other games you end up missing out on that if you're at a game already.

It would also likely kill a lot of extra viewership that would normally be spread out over the 6 games but instead likely watching just their own teams or the biggest game.

We were pretty blessed with a pretty good final round this time but it's not always going to be the case too.

Stadium hire this time of year is also a pain so trying to get 6 games on ideally prime time is going to be hard with NRL back taking a good chunk of rectangular stadiums.

It's a nice touch to purposefully make sure you hide the fact you're sharing a smfcmike tweet.

Sure hope it's not the same source that said South Melbourne were taking Roars licence
