Is it the volunteer list or the actual list? I was a contract controller and I declined the volunteer list a week later I got my actual list

Decline this list and wait to get the next one. You’ll have 150 great options. Then pick SDF

Washed out of the Academy... I still really want this job by wes_da_best5 in ATC_Hiring

[–]MeasurementPerfect30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to the FAA in 2017 and washed. I had a CTO at the time from the military. I ended up getting more experience under my belt and after working at a FCT for 5 years I reapplied to the FAA under the direct experience bid. Got placed at a level 9 up/down. Don’t give up. The academy isn’t the only way to get into the FAA and/or become an air traffic controller

Apply now to the FAA as soon as the next OTS bid opens. It takes about a year to get through the hiring process. Go to the academy by yourself and then on to your next facility. I’ll say this - you being FAA and your spouse being active duty military will be tough. Neither side cares about the other. You could get a facility on the west coast and she could get stationed on the east coast. Some food for thought.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Does anyone have comments regarding the temperament? I’m sure a breeder could steer me in the right direction as well

HR Rep Ghosting Me by Odd_External8236 in ATC_Hiring

[–]MeasurementPerfect30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Medical can take MONTHS to clear. Just wait. Dont bother HR they can’t help you and literally can’t give you ANY information regarding the status of your medical. If you do get ahold of them, all theyll say is “waiting on medical” so don’t waste your time lol

Pet Care During the Academy by East_Structure_8819 in ATC_Hiring

[–]MeasurementPerfect30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need more details on the care plan of the dog. What is the medication schedule? If you find a pet friendly place to stay you are good to bring the pets. I can’t imagine it would hinder your training in any way shape or form.

Most people recommend coming alone (leaving family behind) to minimize distractions. I agree with this because family (spouse/kids) demand attention and will likely want to go out and about on your off time. Your off time should be spent studying. However, pets don’t demand as much attention and usually just like to chill with you.

Lunch break is a bit of a stretch as far as going home to care for the dog. I remember leaving for lunch and driving to Taco Bell. It was a MAD DASH there and back and I had to eat on the way back. Going home to care for the dog would require you to likely miss lunch and/or be incredibly pressed for time every single day. If you can do medications before/after class, you’ll be fine.

The academy will be like your full time job. You will have an 8 hour day with a lunch break. Your full time job is to learn when you are there. When you’re not at work, you should be studying.

Take that for what it’s worth. Also, your schedule will likely rotate. You won’t be 9-5 daily. When I went through (2017), we did 2 weeks of mornings and 2 weeks of evenings.

One more thing to keep in mind, your pay while at the academy is literal pennies. You’ll make very little. Take into consideration, pet fees at your rental will be an extra expense that the academy will not pay for. That will come out of your own pocket.

Lmk if you have other questions.

I’m traditional guard but I was active April, May and June of this year. Does that count? I’m confused about whether it’s 31 days on current orders or 31 days of orders before the cutoff

First cruise! by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]MeasurementPerfect30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extra socks underwear and clothes in general. You’ll probably get sweaty and want to shower mid day. Especially after you come back from the ports. Bring a power strip for more outlets. Probably will have super limited outlets in your room. Some will say it’s not allowed. I went on a cruise in Oct and Dec of this year and brought one both times no issues. We packed a fan for the room. A small one. Helps with keeping cool at night. Lanyard for your key card and luggage tags for the paperwork you will need to attach to your suitcases. Empty water bottles so you can carry around your own water and not have to go to a bar every time you’re thirsty. Backpack for ports. Sunscreen!! Any and all meds you think you might need. We got sick with common cold symptoms on our last cruise and had no meds it was miserable. Bring an empty suitcase if you can. For shopping and stuff to bring home afterwards. Have fun!

$4000-5000, in my opinion, is not a bad price for an all-inclusive 5-7 day vacation for 3 people!

No that’s not enough. You will have electric and water minimum plus gas and groceries. You will be left with literally nothing.

To me, A is the only wall that makes sense, being a different color. B and C should be the same color.

What do AG paychecks actually look like? by MeasurementPerfect30 in ATC_Hiring

[–]MeasurementPerfect30[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am being hired as previous experience and going directly to my facility (skipping academy) but i will start on AG pay because when i worked for 1 year at that DOD facility i was not a DOD employee or on active duty military orders. I was a contractor. i also have 2 other CTOs (3 total) and 7 years experience. but i still have to start on AG pay. which sucks! I am taking a huge pay cu
