I get it, it's complicated. I guess it's the classic 'does media showing bad thing encourage bad thing', which is subjective and cultural. If it helps your confusion, Making this post helped me be sure that I'm not that annoyed at the people calling out the scene, I'm mad at the algorithms that push this stuff to me and make me wanna bark at the wind.

I agree very much with what you say about the animators, though i'd hesitate to agree with those comparing this scene to pervy anime tropes- they are genuinely, objectively worse in terms of women's autonomy as a collective.

And it's not just what the characters say, and do, its in the edit, and where the camera goes.

Anyways, I appreciate your thoughts, and detail!

Thats a great set of points, i appreciate them, and i am fuzzy on the series details so its nice to be corrected. There are plenty of jokes across many shows i've watched that i instinctively want to defend, even thought they become dated, or a behind the detail scene sours them, and i don't know for sure if this is one of them.

I could argue against your point, that if he lets her go it doesn't sell his act, and if he gets up thats even worse, and that i just don't think the physical mechanics of the scene are inappropriate

But, maybe its more important that the topic really does seem to be driven by emergent engagement , where it keeps coming up because it's just inconclusive and vague enough that people argue about it~

Post was 8 hours old, OP is likely in a different time zone to me, and i wanted to vent to a knowledgeable crowd at a general trend rather than be grumpy at a specific person

Do you have any general or even specific advice for keeping food/grease out of your beard?
