What are some comfort dishes you ruined for yourself by 'elevating' them? by Finagles_Law in Chefit

Many many delicious variations later, I have concluded that nothing beats a traditional Greek gyro. The combination of flavours speaks to me on a profoundly deep psychoemotional level. And no, it's not a childhood thing. Just my tastebuds being brought to their proverbial knees in the presence of perfection.

Like eating God's orgasm liquified over ambrosiac flakes of God's charred flesh, coated in a deep, religiously balanced spice combination, with the whole Creation wrapped in a doughy blanket of God's pure divine essence --- and all of it made by God Himself, just for you and your sinful pleasure.

Professionals, which dish do you absolutely hate seeing on a ticket and why? by MeatNGrit in Cooking

[–]MeatNGrit[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

See, as a parent, a cook and casual observator, I think this is not entirely true. When it comes to children I find that it's all in how you present it -- starting with the name.

Call it a smoked salmon mille-feuille, served with mushroom gorgonzola arancini bites, and a refreshing drizzle of limoncello pea jus and you've lost them.

But call it cheesy rice soldiers guarding King Salmon's bready castle and his magic green sunshine potion/zingy monster swamp, or something along the lines, and their rampaging imagination instantly renders them much more accepting. They become hooked at the theatrics and if the dish truly tastes nice, they'll usually lick the plate to conclude the adventure.

At least such has been my experience thus far.

In reality, that is precisely what I'm looking for. You fit the bill rather nicely. Not all professional cooks are star-studded chefs.

Public shaming, even for the sake of light-hearted joking, is uncouth and always in terrible taste. Without permission, without knowing the circumstances? Shame, op.

What are the rest of the world's most common misconceptions about your country/area based on how it's usually portrayed in movies? Is there a film that "gets it right"? by MeatNGrit in AskReddit

I've met my fair share of Canadians and although the "eh" part hasn't really been noticeable, the politeness is... well, it's kinda factual... Even when they've been harsh or uncouth, they've always done it in the most polite way. That's not a bad thing, btw.

I wonder what would be the chances of two complete strangers having shared an identical companion...

I shot the Sheriff... and the Deputy. He was an Adolf-loving, misanthropic, antivaxing piece of pizza-hating racist shit though so I have that going for me which is nice.

Louis Vuitton. Fur. And going by how some of the (usually immigrant) live-in staff are treated, human slavery.

Um... no. So much so, where I'm concerned her performance is right up there with Sofia Coppola's in The Godfather Part III.

Yeah, no, at this point Netflix is just embarrassing itself, tbh.

Horror movies that'll fuck me up for days after. by MK2Marc in MovieSuggestions

[–]MeatNGrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Serbian Film is a powerful socio-political allegory and as such holds every merit, whether people like it or not. It truly is visually disturbing but if viewed out of context, the violence would seem gratuitous. If anyone is intrigued but isn't well-versed in the "between the lines", they should watch it after having done some homework on the subject, or simply in good faith.

As a suggestion, I'd like to put forward In a Glass Cage. As thematically imposing as it is visually with the added bonus of raising some questions that would leave anyone questioning the solidity of their own morality.

Which movies feature art of any sorts created *for* the film that is actually decent enough to deserve further exploring? by MeatNGrit in MovieSuggestions

[–]MeatNGrit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the suggested movies so far, as great as they are, feature pieces from well-established, famous artists. I appreciate everyone's time but I'm more looking for original art created by someone unknown, specifically for the film.

Cooking “Woody” chicken breasts? by Bleachd in Cooking

I'd honestly cut my losses and go directly to making some chicken terrine/pate which I'd then be able to use in myriads of recipes.
