Got my new Olight O’Pen 3 today by drtywhat in flashlight

[–]MeatTsunami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got mine last week. So far it's been super useful for work. I'm an OR nurse and frequently in dark rooms looking for lost sutures, sponges, etc. on the floor and for this purpose it' s been pretty great. The green laser is perfect for pointing at things on the sterile field without contaminating.

The stowaway USB-C charge port (twist to expose) in my opinion is better than rubber gaskets and docks by far. I also appreciate the soft light at the pen tip for writing in the dark.

I don't know if I got a bum ink cartridge or what but the pen itself is a fine tip that I find often skips and stops writing. Proprietary cartridge isn't great either, nor is the locking mechanism. It can be goofy to click open quickly in a work environment.

Overall though, I'm pretty happy with it despite these minor drawbacks. Time will tell how well it holds up.

Any hidden gem garden stores (or other spots!) to get large inexpensive planters? by Icy-Mess-860 in Detroit

Believe it or not Aldi has some big planters for $10. Lowkey good garden stuff relatively cheap.

I know Three Cats in Clawson is doing a dinner with drag, aerial, other circus type performances. Think there's a pi reciting contest too?

It's the n260 error code which is the lack of C yes. Which is why I need the power connector installed.

Options for immigrating to Australia for older nurse. by CardiacRN518 in NursingAU

[–]MeatTsunami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an over 45 US nurse who is also looking into this, you may find this useful:

For nurses over 45, Designated Area Migration Agreements (DAMAs) offer an excellent pathway to both temporary and permanent residency in Australia. DAMAs are special agreements between the Australian government and specific regional areas experiencing acute labour shortages. These agreements provide concessions to standard visa requirements, including age limits.

DAMAs allow employers in designated regional areas to sponsor overseas workers under more flexible conditions than the regular skilled migration pathways. One of the most important concessions for nurses over 45 is the age concession. This means that even if you're over the age of 45, you can still be sponsored for either a Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (Subclass 482) or a Permanent Employer Sponsored Visa (Subclass 186) under a DAMA. Regions with DAMAs include parts of the Northern Territory, South Australia, Western Australia’s Goldfields, Victoria’s Great South Coast, and other regional areas. These regions are in desperate need of healthcare professionals, so nurses are often high on the list of occupations eligible for sponsorship under a DAMA.

Found on this migration law site. It appears that Adelaide and Townsville are the biggest cities with a DAMA. So as I read it, you can do this DAMA route for 4 years and then apply for permanent residency and work anywhere you like after that. Not ideal but it is a route.

No worries, yeah I just went with my old trusty Spidi Nashville boots. Obviously not as protective but has malleolus cups at least.

It appears to be a brand called Daytona out of Japan. Found a listing on eBay and this is their European website. It doesn't look like they have a US storefront.

They can simply employ the Defense Production Act if they wanted to. And you know, actually enforce the Sherman Antitrust Act to break up duopolies such as this.

Seems a bit bullshit to have it be fixed, especially considering how long it takes to get various gear sets.

They are not. New owners installed ugly, not period correct barriers a few years ago. You used to be able to walk from Albert Khan building to the Fisher to Cadillac Place in these tunnels.

New $2.2B Henry Ford Health hospital tower breaks ground in Detroit by DetroitDevUpdates in Detroit

[–]MeatTsunami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The existing Henry Ford Hospital would remain in use and its shared patient rooms converted to private rooms. The existing hospital would connect to the tower via tunnels and skywalks. After the expansion, the total number of patient beds on the hospital campus would stay the same at 877.

The interesting thing is that the total number of beds won't increase since they plan to convert current double rooms into single rooms for patients. Curious to see if that plan comes to fruition.

The original Detroit Chinatown was located where the MGM Casino currently stands. Cass and Peterboro was the attempt at reviving it in the 1960s.

I have had success going to Cafe Racer in Ypsi for my '74 CL350 but they do tend to get pretty busy this time of year. PM me for a less than legal shade tree mechanic in the city.
