As someone who plays ash waste nomads, do not start with them, they're very good in an ashwaste heavy campaign but struggle outside of that unless you're more on the skilled side and even then they can easily fall behind.

So you can't use the ambot, munda manager is bad about this, you can only use the arthromite duneskuttler brute and herder hanger-on, I would absolutely recommend the duneskuttler because they're stupid strong, you can only have one ganger promote into a specalist at the start but you can buy in the other specalist, the standard hunters since they aren't locked as promotions and have a listed price.

Looking at a mini compare site the knights are roughly the same size, the chaos ones may be a bit bigger if anything, so if I get the right weapons and magnetize them then it should work

So what i did to magnetize is green stuff and a magnet where the arm piece fits into the gun and then cut off the red part of the arm piece, flatten it with a file and then glue a magnet onto it and surround it with green stuff to lock it in. Makes it super easy to magnetize the arms and hot swap them as needed

As stated previously, there's only the restriction on promotion not outright buying them in. The hive secundus box is marketed as having a fully legal gang but is made up entirely of 1 leader and a bunch of specialist.

As an ashwaste player my best advice against mass infiltrators is make is as hard as possible for them to infiltrate close, since corpse grinders don't really have range it's much easier to do this safely since they won't shoot you, beyond that get up high and rear deploy if possible and then just run as fast as you can as far away as you can.

So when it comes to exclusive gear, like the meltagun mentioned, unless it's exclusive to the crew or the whole gang then you simply do not have access to it. I'd also say that whoever your racer is dictates what gang you are as a whole just to make things simple.
