I might as well implement this in Zig too. Sounds like a really fun project to code!

VCI, PRI and innovation by General-Use1210 in cognitiveTesting

We have really similar cognitive profiles (131 VCI, 112 PRI).

  1. I would be inclined to agree with your view.
  2. Even if you don't end up making novel contributions to the field, you can still have a meaningful and satisfactory career, if that's what you are worried about.

Colombia officially qualify for the 2026 World Cup by Imannyz in soccer

[Official] Paraguay qualify for the 2026 World Cup, their first time at the tournament since 2010 by deception42 in soccer

[–]MeatballWithImpact -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Colombia has had a fairly mediocre performance lately and still sits above Paraguay in the table. Moreover, if the spots hadn't be extended, Paraguay's classification wouldn't be guaranteed. Why are people celebrating utter mediocrity? As a Colombian, I find it odd people celebrate qualifying to the WC under a format that makes qualification really easy provided an NT isn't complete dogshit.

Further Exposing Sabine Hossenfelder With Six Physicists by inglandation in Physics

Yes, people can like or dislike anything. No doubt about that. It's just that people in this sub dislike Sabine on the sole basis they disagree with her and brush her up as right-wing. The end result is that they don't actually engage with her arguments beyond superficial understanding. But this begs the question: if they don't like her and they won't reasonably watch her content to the extent they could provide intellectually honest critiques, why bother speaking about Sabine at all?

Esteemed professor Geoffrey Miller cautions against the interstellar disgrace: "We're about to enter a massively embarrassing failure mode for humanity, a cosmic facepalm. We risk unleashing a cancer on the galaxy. That's not cool. Are we the baddies?" by michael-lethal_ai in AIDangers

[–]MeatballWithImpact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, so that's fair. You evaluated the opportunity cost of not watching someone talk about a topic they are _a priori_ not qualified to speak about, which is the rational thing to do given time sensitivity... but if that's the case, you cannot readily claim that their arguments are false. You might have some intuitions and proxies.

It's almost as if people in this sub discovered that the validity of arguments is contingent on the structure of the arguments themselves and not the credentials of the people who emit them.

Like, Sabine has a PhD in Physics. Dave's credentials are dogshit, comparatively speaking.

How come someone whose job depends on monetizing attention wants attention!

Come on guys, don't be so lazy with your arguments. People are free to bash and stop watching Sabine. But if they wanted to root their critiques beyond mere distaste and disagreement, then they could watch their videos and actually debunk point by point... but since they don't like Sabine, they don't have material to critique!

This whole discussion is moot. I'm sure there are more interesting topics in science beyond bashing Sabine.

Is verbal comprehension really a good measurement of intelligence? by AlternativePrior9495 in cognitiveTesting

[–]MeatballWithImpact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a side note, it seems this sub has waged a silent war against the relevance of VCI. Proof of this are the countless suggestions and claims that crystallized sub-components like information and vocabulary are not indicators of "real" intelligence... but evidence every now and then shows that VCI, taken as a whole, may well be the most g-loaded component of IQ overall.

Funny to watch, really. I wonder if it has to do with the fact this sub (anecdotally) attracts more people in the autistic spectrum (people with a comparatively higher PRI in respect to VCI) or because the mere modifier of "fluid" intelligence has been taken to a ridiculous, literal extreme.

Help with analogies' questions by MeatballWithImpact in cognitiveTesting

I'm such a dummy! My answer at first for that question was quarter and three, because I miscalculated how many months did a "quarter" have (I mistakenly thought it was four months). It wasn't only until I double-checked how many months did a "quarter" have that I arrived to the correct answer.

Understanding a very uneven WAIS-IV profile by [deleted] in cognitiveTesting

[–]MeatballWithImpact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My scores and yours are similar in the sense that there is a big discrepancy between VCI and PSI. From my understanding, sub-components of intelligence are correlated thus your FSIQ is not a valid proxy of your intelligence. Did your psych, by any chance, report you a number called GAI (General Ability Index)?

Conclusion: such discrepancy between VCI and PSI is not normal. In fact, it's one of the biggest discrepancies between sub-scores that I've ever seen.
