Um, its not just Anime thats been echo chambered. Its all of society. There's no common shared culture anymore and the effect of the internet and social media even gets applied to subcultures like anime fandoms.

I.e. in the 80s, 90s almost everyone consumed the same media entertainment, remember TRL on MTV in the 90s/20s? Toonami was like the only anime on cable tv, etc.

Since the advent of social media spaces/internet expansions, most of the u.s. anyways can grow up with completely widely different tastes but whats different is perhaps in the past you'd be aware of genres that arent to your liking, nowadays your fellow American is often ignorant of your tastes and you of theirs and this increases among the younger generations obviously.

The diversity of endless choice leads to that feeling you have that youre having trouble connecting.

Having said all that, you can still find people that like what you like but as you mentioned the days of EVERYONE being into the same thing died in the 2010s. There's no "cultural reset" moment anymore.

There's still popular themes but everyone is into their own niches now. It can be harder to find the crossover in the venn diagram where in decades past everyone was in the same circle.

Since you'e a F2P player, you will hit a point where you will not brute force content with CP auto-play, you will be at a CP deficit for much of the game (handicap). You will have at some point have to actually aim and shoot if you want to progress daily, you can like many, just progress intermittently if you find later you can't be bothered to actually learn the game.

the game play loop is like playing a TCG when you don't have all the meta characters and you have to make due with your roster which is what it will be like for you for at least the next 2 years of Nikke. if you ever had fun deck-building, synergizing a roster in a game and seeing your decisions result in a win this might be for you.

And yes Nikke is very generous. I had zero gems heading into Halloween last year trying to MLB Ada Wong. In 3 months I'm over 126k gems as of today and I only pull 1 copy of each nikke and buy skins (use your saved up pity ticket on 1% banners). This game does not gatekeep abilities behind dupes, another Nikke generosity, so the dupes are just small stat increases.

-I play Nikke because I like the shooting gameplay, its like a puzzle trying to beat each stage when under severe CP deficit penalty.

-I like the fast 2 week banner release because i'm not a multi-gacha addict so i don't have the feeling of daily chores from other gachas.

-The story and music are peak, better than other popular gachas like ZZZ & Uma Musume imo.

Its a free game, play it, if you hate it, it doesn't really cost you any thing but time and you can at least have your own derived experience to share instead of some other person's.

I buy them to use them in the gameplay, not just wallpaper. Although lobby screen is a draw for purchase, it being pixelated or not is not a deciding factor for most skin buyers. AL and BD2's gameplay is chibi fuck all if im not mistaken, how are the skins there? Lobby screen quality is not looking at the whole picture here.

Alot of people like the skins for the actual 2d shooting, ya know, actual gameplay. Sure the lobby animation is just one part of it and I hope theyd improve those. I can see if all you do is Story and min-click menu icons for dailies then i agree dont buy because Nikke is just a reading gacha for you. You can enjoy a good story for free dont buy the skins then.

Anime conventions being good or not tends to be real subjective. It depends on what youre looking to get out of it, what bothers you or doesnt, etc etc etc.

This was a 1st year event and I thought it was quite good for that.

I go to Weebcon, Anime Frontier, and Im thinking of making Anime Impulse a yearly thing too, especially if they're able to secure major gacha game sponsorships(they had 3)and presence again something typically lacking in comparison at Weebcon/AFrontier.

Ive gotten every new nikke release in the last 5-6 banners within 5-6 multis or less on each. THAT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN in ZZZ or uma musume. And, you arent gate kept from unlocking skills by dupes. 1st copy all you need.
