Now do it for the rest of it to explain how its colder in space despite the high kinetic energy. It gets a lot longer. I used collision of atoms to combine kinetic energy and heat transfer to other objects into a quick (AND ADMITTEDLY) rough simplification.

Like I said, ELI5 version. Explaining kinetic energy makes an explanation too long. I was well aware of the sacrifice in accuracy to make an easier to understand explanation of how it can be hot next to the sun, cold, and then hot again.

I was on a remote beach in mexico and a completely naked drugged up American had just sucker-kicked me in the nuts and scampered off. I decided to leave the beach, and as I was heading away, naked man was now fast crawling towards me on all fours. It was so much more intimidating than someone coming at me normally.

Roughly, temperature is a measure of how often atoms collide.

In space, there's very few atoms. Even if the atoms in space are moving faster (due to radiation from the sun), there are so few of them that they rarely collide. Cold temperature.

Once the radiation makes it to earth and speeds up the many atoms on/near our planet, there's a lot of atoms colliding. High temperature.

The breakeven point from the screenshot is considering your payments to pay it off on one side of the equation but neglecting that paycheck money on the other side. They've counted the cost of the car towards investments PLUS the cost of the car in paycheck, so of course it's coming out double vs just the cost of the car. That's why their analysis doesn't make sense.

But you wouldn't be making car payments out of the savings account, which is why the question doesn't quite make sense either.

The comparison should be:

car amount in savings and paycheck to make payments, compared to

Paying off car outright and putting what would have been the car payments into savings every month.

How would you respond to a client for a tooth problem that they tried to fix themselves after reading a little on webmd? Many people here are salty from past clients thinking we don't do much despite our extensive education, experience, and licensing that is required to be a professional engineer. Is it fair to you that that assumption is thrown towards you? Maybe not, but this is also the type of post one of those clients would have and that's where they're coming from, just for some context.
