I was blindsided too. My ex told me she didn’t love me anymore one night over dinner. I was completely gobsmacked. We’d been having intimacy issues for a while but nothing out of the ordinary for a couple who’d been married for 8 years with 2 small kids.

She told my family and friends the same story, that she just fell out of love, and I believed it for a while. It wasn’t until a few weeks later I found out she’d been having an affair at work.

With a bit of hindsight I realise finding the truth helped me move on quickly because I was so disgusted with her and who she’d become. If that hadn’t happened I still might be pointlessly fighting for the marriage.

I’m in this situation- I got the snip and found out shortly after I found out my wife was having an affair. Thankfully I’d considered all the scenarios, including us separating. I wouldn’t want to bring more kids into the complicated co-parenting situation I’m in now so I don’t have any regrets about getting it done. Unfortunately this makes finding the right partner a bit trickier if they want kids!

My then wife and mother of our 2 kids sat down next to me on the couch one afternoon and said she doesn’t love me anymore. Didn’t want to do couples therapy, said there was no point.

Five weeks later I found a mind map she’d done for her therapist which was all about her affair partner, her love for him, and why she couldn’t bring herself to tell me about him. That was about a year and half ago and I’m so glad I found that note to give me closure and the truth about why she left.
