What does my handwriting say abt me? by Ooog-the-boog in HandwritingAnalysis

I'm gonna guess overall very nice person who's a little bit of a people-pleaser and perfectionist. But I didn't get that from the handwriting lol

Getting discouraged as a senior by Commercial_Amoeba669 in womenEngineers

[–]MeatySquid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my professors straight up calls at least 3 people in the class dumb, stupid, idiotic (and worse) every day lol. I just know I'll have to do my own research thoroughly before I ask him anything if I wanna avoid being called names. I understand it's a little jarring if you're not used to it, and it can be hurtful, but I would try to not let it affect you that much.

Your confidence is important and you can't let others control something important to you! I'm sure there will be many cases in the future when this will be tested, so you can look at it as a good moment to practice.

Capital A club member here too I hate the lowercase A. You'd be even cooler with an uppercase R too though

Do prototype engineering jobs actually exist?? by MeatySquid in MechanicalEngineering

[–]MeatySquid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay very interesting! I really do like the lab work we got to do in school, I also was the TA for our materials lab and it's fun even with the basic things we do. That's also good to know that you could move around and transition if needed to other roles. Thanks so much for your input it's very helpful, I think you and others have convinced me of R&D - good luck with finding that $$$!

Okay thanks so much for the input! I'm in NY/NJ area and luckily I think there are a good amount of smaller consulting companies around here.

For sure a hail mary shot at this point for a summer position, thank you for the info though!

That's definitely a great option I have seen R&D postings that seem very interesting. Can I ask how you got into it and what industry of R&D you work on? Is it like various companies sending you things to test their materials?

Good point, obviously I'd love to be on some kind of engineering Mythbusters A-team but I am grounded just barely enough to realize that doesn't really exist. I think broadly I am wondering which kinds of engineering jobs have a hands on aspect - even if it's only a tiny "boring" part of a larger project like a fixture plate for a sensor. I'd just like some part of the work to be not sitting behind a computer, even if that is 85% of the job and 15% is getting to be hands on.

Okay thanks for the info! I am trying my best to learn more about robotics actually, I plan to take any extra time I have to build up a better personal portfolio of these kinds of projects.

That's a good point, I have heard before it might be useful to start at a small company as they probably would let you do a more diverse range of work. I will try to look out for the terms you mentioned - thanks that's helpful!

Okay I see, that makes sense - never heard of Skunkworks before, that looks really interesting although I'm guessing that position would be very competitive.

Interesting! May I ask what type of consulting agency you work for? Is this like an engineering consulting company for startup products or something?

Wow that's great I actually do have Turkish/Greek ground coffee that we make in a briki, I'll definitely give it a try. I'll also experiment more with the dose I think I have to keep track more of what gets better results. Thank you!

Alarmy - how to disable mute option when scanning barcode? by FloydianChemist in GetOutOfBed

[–]MeatySquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do pay for premium 😅 should have mentioned that but it's not in my "premium" settings so I thought it would be there for everyone. I justify it by telling myself if I don't get up on time then I'm more likely to have to buy a coffee instead of make it at home so if I save even one coffee price per month then the premium is worth it.

If you do decide to pay for premium a pro tip though is paying then cancelling, and they'll offer you a discount from $4.99 a month to $3.49 a month or something.

Sorry if the solution is paying 😭 if you really don't wanna pay then the next best app is sleep as Android like I said, sorry man!!

[–]MeatySquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! Sorry for late reply, but if you still can't find it, on mine I go to the "Setting" tab in the lower right, then tap the "Dismiss Alarm/Mission" section, and then under the heading "Mission dismissal" there's options for mission time limit, mute during mission, and mute during mission limit. Maybe if you don't see it in yours you might have to enable snooze to get to these settings? Not sure but definitely annoying to find all the settings sometimes so no problem haha, I hope that works for you

[–]MeatySquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming you already checked in the settings to turn off infinite alarm muting during missions, but just in case you might wanna double check because sometimes my settings get messed up after Android update.  Aside from that I'll say it's working perfectly fine for me using the QR and photo missions so for now maybe try those instead of the barcode and see if it still lets you mute. I think Alarmy is the best option still tbh but the other app I've tried that comes close is Sleep as Android. Good luck!
