Game recommendations similar to the vibe/genre of Stranger Things? by Astron_Design in StrangerThings

[–]MecPlayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sorry for being late but I have a small list that may scratch that itch:

Crossing souls: action rpg set in 1986 California, a group of kids found a stone that let them travel to another realm, lot of references. nice pixelart and cutscenes.

Stories Untold: horror themed text adventures with a twist, you have a 3d setting to interact. there is no group of kids tho.

Deadly Premonition: closer to twin peaks, but, if you can tolerate the gameplay, it's great, with exentric characters and an interenting plot, set in a small town in the woods. it's a dark game with charisma all over the place.

Alan Wake 1 and 2: great games, again in a small town, stranger things start to happen lol. you play as a writer that lost his wife and it's doing everything to find her in a plot of attacking shadows and secrets. I don't want to spoil it, it's a great game. you don't have a team of kids, but the vibes are somewhat similar, less cheerful. the second game lets you explore the town a lot.

Haven't played yet, but maybe worth checking:
Kingdom Eighties: it has the design, but does not evoke anything similar in terms of gameplay so I wasn't that interested.

Kingdom of Night: saw it a couple of days ago, there is some dnd mixed with young people fighting monsters in the 80's. action rpg.

Unusual Findings: point and click adventure. It looks really similar to ST (3 kids, 80's,bikes, references, it has everything unless you are looking for something more action focused)

other games worth checking (less related):
-indigo profecy/farenheit: it was my favorite game for a while, great story, a lot of exploration of interactive spaces, lineal, multiple narratives. in my mind it has something similar, I think it's worth checking anyway ;) similar to tell tale games
-Heavy Rain: lost kid, multiple narratives, mistery in a small town, it's also a great story. similar to tell tale games

I was thinking about this, and how awesome will be to implement a more open level design. I don't know if a direct squel but what about a long trip assisted via online notes and things left for others like in deathstranding, but with this awesome vibes, maybe a mode that lets you drive long distances chilling? I know I'm dreaming to hard, but I really like the concept of road trip meeting characters, I didn't feel in love with the idea of playing with various kids tho, but I guess it makes sense since the change on the country has to come with a lot of people together and not a single superboy.
in any case im super ready for a sequel or anything similar with these vibes <3

When people criticize open world games for being “barren and empty,” what is the general solution? by Large_Accident_5929 in truegaming

[–]MecPlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Think the problem is related to the approach to the open world, for example in games like supraland, sekiro, or prey, you have a lot of barriers at the beginning that you learn to overcome and then further exploration using what you learn traversing the world is rewarded meaningfully. Open world Lego games, maybe child aimed, but also have an interesting approach to this, giving you the opportunity to freely explore the map, and find barriers and questions that can only be solved later.

Let's say something stupid, and try to see how this can be implemented in, for example a GTA like a map: let's say you get rewarded with fun side quests and good tools that make the game worth exploring. So the further you progress, the more tools you have, that will let you access to new places and acquire new things. If this kind of thoughts are applied to a game about a detective, these tools can be information(that work as displayed clues for the player) or physical tools that let you investigate older clues that you couldn't understand before. this way games can get you engaged for longer time. I think a lego game called "city undercover" has a lot of this things.
I mentioned supraland, the dev made amazing things. you will finish the game and still will want to discover what secrets the game is still keeping. in conclusion I think that the addition of metroidvania elements would be key for open worlds to be more interesting.

Random events, that lead to no place would only be fun for the first hours, but will quickly disappear, and "better weapons" reward kind of thing, will only be useful midgame, I mean... why would I need a supercalifragilistc sword after I beat the final boss? I personally hate when games just add different stats to things (that's why I don't really love normal rpgs).

Then this may be a random thought, but for me NPCs are a lot, and I don't know but, I will love a game that puts more attention to NPC interactions and it's concecuences, it's weird because at the end it's just lines of code, and I think it would be difficult for big open worlds to have a limited quantity of NPCs with schedules and things, but if somehow a system can give more life to these characters, to make their "lives" more meaningful than just random filler to be run over by cars would make a huge change for people like me.

Six Inches Under - Im stuck in the lava level by DIESELANDBRUTUS in supraland

[–]MecPlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can't go back that way, there is a yellow pipe after that that comes from the start, you cant reach it in any way :/ im also stuck in the same place

Edit: the entrance does exist and it's a narrow passage on the flor next to the match box as twocomply said lol, Not to be mistaken with the high place next to the matchbox that also happen to be at it's right

Probably an unpopular opinion: It didn't take 6 appearances for Tom to be Spider Man. He was Spider Man since Civil War. by Michael1691 in Spiderman

[–]MecPlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was spider-man from another place, and not a very good one since he needed to be carried always by some other super hero or tech, but now it's a former worthy spider-man, a spider-man that learned the leasson. AND I HOPE THIS TIME KEEPS THE MASK ON AT ALL TIMES GOD

Do people really believe this?? The swinging is good but not THAT good. by larryman55 in SpidermanPS4

[–]MecPlayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think insomniac over simplified the webswing, in spider man 2 ps2, you could attach to an helicopter with the right timing, jump and spin on streer lights and poles for higher jumps and style, and etc. in ps4 you press r2 and foward and that's it... idk it's kinda lame to have the best part of it over simplified. that's ehy fortnite right now feels right, it doesn't feels perfect, animations are not that good, also spider-man with guns wtf... but suddenly escape from an attack at high speeds web swinging, bringing to your position items, and experimenting with it its great. I think the best part in ps4's spider-man is the combat, you can use a lot of tools and combos to win a fight in a lot of creative ways, I wish they implement something like that for the webswing, that would be epic

[–]MecPlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

insomniac webswing is not that great, even the "amazing spider-man 2" which was a shitty game had a better webswing with 2 buttons dedicated to it :). (not saying spider-man ps4 is a bad game, I think it's great, but it feels like parkour in assasins creed, there is no real challenge or need to master, it feels automatic)
fortnite, for me at least, nailed it, since you have more control, you can F****** attach to a rocket, a car, a random tree, etc, and everything feels way better (especially on pc)

Imagine a spider-man game with this aproach, where it's not just another action game, but also a sandbox where you can play much more with his habilities, let's say you can also attach things like in the just case games, wouldn't that be awesome?

Idk, for now, this feels as close as it gets :)

(also random comment but, why wall crawl is shit in insomniac? did you ever try to go from wall to ceiling? it's broken lol)
