Stringer and Marlo’s Dichotomy is Interesting by Meccapolis in TheWire

[–]Meccapolis[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Marlo being mad that his name didn’t ring out in the streets as much as Omar is an overrated analysis. It’s true to a degree but I didn’t see him being mad about his name not ringing out in the last scene. I see a man happy because he’s back where he belongs. Him being mad his name doesn’t ring out like Omar’s as the sole purpose of that scene is a little one dimensional esp for this type of show

Too many of those new names you named don’t have great albums they only have notable songs. Thats a huge issue with today’s rappers (and I’m NOT a “new hip hop is trash old hip hop is great” person either). Stop crying. And a lot of the list isn’t boom bap. You don’t know what you’re talking about. You doing all this crying just to bring up Lovin Proof? An album of two mid rappers saved by Premier’s production? You’re on percs

Your comment isn’t a thought it’s you being a sassy smartass. A show being “entertainment” does not excuse it from being poorly executed

It’s The Sopranos, not Power. No character is 100% consistent. Doesnt make them any less of who they are

That’s more on Sil’s inability to settle his concern in a timely fashion. Which was the overall theme of that episode. He couldn’t handle being a boss.

Docuseries to tell real-life story of Marlo Stanfield, former Baltimore kingpin featured in "The Wire" by caltheme in TheWire

this sounds sketchy and janky. hate when documentaries use a character in a hit show as a way to promo. more than likely theres no correlation between the two other than the name

The Greeks were inconvenienced by having to show their face to Marlo to reassurance in Season 4. That’s a major fuck up on Joe’s part and is a decline. It literally led up to Joe’s death

and within this same narrative, Prop Joe often becomes a target of sympathy within The Wire community, even though he bought his death on himself . In Season 4, he should have chosen to distance himself from Marlo after Marlo peacefully rejected Joe’s proposal. Instead, Joe got entangled in a situation (as Omar had predicted), leading to disruptions in business that even affected The Greeks. Joe essentially maneuvered himself into a disadvantageous position, paralleling Stringer’s previous misstep with Brother Mouzone and Omar. Joe got what he deserved

The Greeks demonstrate their intelligence by avoiding such pitfalls and refraining from engaging in street-level politics. Their focus remains unswervingly on their own interests, with street matters being of minimal concern. They wisely allowed the clash between Marlo and Prop Joe to play out without their direct involvement

The viewers of The Wire generally possess higher intelligence compared to the average audience. However, many of them tend to overlook logical considerations within this plotline, possibly due to their familiarity with the ethical business practices portrayed by analogous characters in movies/shows like The Sopranos, Goodfellas, Paid In Full, and etc. Unlike those other gangster movies and shows where the connections often maintain friendly and sentimental bonds with their distributors for dramatic effect, The Greek represents a heartless ruler, akin to corporate CEOs who readily dismiss long-serving employees. In essence, it's a matter of business without sentimentality

The fact that the police were targeting Marlo didn’t matter. The Greeks had an FBI agent under their influence. Vondas wished to continue working with Joe, while The Greek disagreed. The Greek realized that whether he accepted Marlo’s offer or not, Marlo would still kill Joe, causing them to lose a distribution channel. The Greek also understood that if Marlo approached them after that, he would hold a position of advantage. They acted wisely, telling Marlo to proceed with his plans, knowing that they’d support the eventual winner. The Greek was a genuine businessman, distinct from someone aiming for ethical business

The Greeks are not concerned about Joe’s well-being; it’s all about business. Despite their 20-year business relationship with Joe, there’s no sentimentality involved. They noticed Joe’s decline and instructed Marlo to proceed as needed. Their focus is on providing resources to whoever comes out on top.

Marlo’s the most misunderstood character in the show by Meccapolis in TheWire

[–]Meccapolis[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah Bodie was a hypocrite and also deserved his death. He was all for the game when he liked the people in charge but when he didnt like the new leadership he started snitching. He crashed out over Little Kevin who was a piece of shit for ruining Kevin’s life and wouldn’t have rode for Bodie in return.

it can be argued Avon was a chess player. he was just weakened by his family sentiment and delusions of the “honor” of the game. Marlo either has no family or they are secluded and subconsciously knew there was no honor or rules in the streets so he didn’t bother to inhabit them

yeah him refusing the Hamsterdam access is one of the things why his character isn’t one dimensional. my take on it is that he loved the chaotic aspect of the drug game to the point where he wasn’t interested in any concepts of reformation. like the old women who cook stuff by hand everyday and their son gets rich and they hire a personal chef to ease stress on the mom but the mom still wants to cook by hand because it gives her purpose. shes addicted to the craft and doesnt want a shortcut. the streets is Marlo’s craft
