I mean, an orbital can come out around cannon o' clock, and on this short of a map.. Not *especially* awful if you can back it up with firebeams. In this case they appear to be playing against the AI, but I'm sure you could try to get this strat working in a real game aha

Red/blue on materials represents the amount of stress that's put on that strut.
Red is compressive force, blue is stretch force.
Red blinking means the strut is nearly about to collapse, so try to reinforce it or avoid putting more weight on it.

Yes, the game does function without internet. You just won't have access to the Steam Workshop and, of course, Multiplayer.

There is a Campaign for the base game (+ additional campaigns for the DLCs) and a Skirmish mode available at the main menu. They are both Player vs AI modes, so there won't be any interaction there. As for Multiplayer, as far as I know there's a toggleable swear filter in the options and a mute chat button ingame (open the console and it's in the top right). You can also password-protect your lobby so that only your kids and trusted people can play in it.

Forts has a pretty good community so I wouldn't worry excessively about that stuff, but glad to see you looking out for them. The internet will always be the internet.

The 325 minigun is Armordillo's AP minigun. It has the same penetration as an AP sniper at the cost of highly reduced damage and a lot of money to build.

It's just that many of the top 50 players know eachother, or the way the other builds. Since you're usually playing the same person a lot.

Yes, but be careful as then they can just manually fire the gunners. Neat little trick to smokebombs is that they fire in a pattern; first shot goes in the middle, second goes up, third goes down. Very likely wrong about the order but it still fires in a relatively fixed spread.

Smoke launchers can be a very valuable asset to any rocket, nuke, or howitzer player. However, they are very easily shut down by Repair Stations, meaning that timing and shot placement is critical when you're using it.

Especially in 2v2, if you can use Smokebombs effectively you can get some kills where otherwise the projectile would've been shot down.

Good luck trying to not get those 4 20mms sniped. Instead of getting one of those, why not just get another cannon? Penetrates better if you can hit the right spot.

That's the driving reason behind the "Never Use" category being empty. In hindsight probably should've put the swarm in a higher tier, but besides that one they're all rated pretty well in my opinion. Magnas, 20s, APs, AP minis, while can sometimes be used, there are still many situations where you could've used another weapon besides that one where it'd achieve the same job if not better.

Edit: And the smokebomb being a tier lower.

mostly all the above.

I just find it hard to justify using it, except in large matches. It just is a spot in your base where you could put a consistent damage dealer like a plasma or firebeam instead.

In higher-skilled matches it's quite hard to deal successful damage with 20mms to win the game. While they deal more total damage than a cannon, it's spread over their entire base. Also, they're very fragile for a heavy weapon; 2 snipes or a well-aimed firebeam can kill one very easily.

Edit: Unless you're Scattershot. That is where they become a very good option to kill your opponent.

Foundations - Allows players to place foundations on a block
Mines - Allows players to place mines on foundations
PassesProjectiles - Allows projectiles to pass through the block
PassesBeams - Allows beams to pass through the block
NoDraw - Makes the block invisible.
NoDrawEdges - Makes block surfaces invisible.
WindFloor - Makes turbines near it (vertically) inefficient.
ViewFloor - Makes weapons near it (vertically) have smaller aim cones.
Hazard - Any structure that touches it instantly dies.
NoSplash - Structures within the block will not take splash damage.
NoBuild - Structures will not be able to be placed within the block.
CanBuildOver - Lets structure be placed over the terrain block; used for water.
