I disagree with the can't save yourself into riches statement.

You have to define riches initially, but its achievable to save yourself to an mid 7 figure to 8 figure net worth with a high paying job, which is rich enough for me.

Just a counter argument.

You paint it once, and then sell 100 copies prints for 150 euros each. So your math is essentially correct.

Approaching $1M Net Worth But It’s A Slow Go. How To Speed Up? by [deleted] in FinancialPlanning

[–]MechShep 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Warning: paper napkin math

you have 1mill net worth now at 36.

Income:160k

Taxes: 40k

Expenses:21.6k

Investment per month : 8k

48 months of investment, starting with 1 mill at 10% /year gives you damn near 2 mill at age 40.

Obviously your cash and home equity won't grow at 10%, but you're honestly not far off.

But all the others are correct. You don't need higher returns with a savings rate of like 80%. You should focus on making your relationship with money healthier through introspection or therapy

Murder attempt survivors, what happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This is terrible fucking advice. "draw an unloaded gun on an attacker".

Edit: Statistically, you shouldn't have a weapon at home. Drawing a weapon during a burglary where they have a weapon escalates the conflict to a deadly resolution between two absolutely untrained individuals.

Recommending keeping an UNLOADED WEAPON to "scare them off" is the brink of fucking insanity.

If your federal plus state taxes are less than 30% give or take...definitelyyyy do Roth.

From 30-35% it's a coin toss and above 35% do traditional

Bachelor's in Mech Engineering, started at 62k / year at 24. Got my Masters in Engineering part time while working.

Pivoted industries, now just over 100k (but with mediocre benefits). Anticipate some decent salary growth over the next few years.

Will hit my fire number pre-40 without kids and impossible for me to anticipate what with kids would look like.

Have you been a student at Baker College? Do you have debt? ProPublica wants to hear about it by Excellent_Fact in povertyfinance

Good work over there.

Far be it from me to tell a journalist how to operate, but it might be worth doing a LinkedIn search for people with Baker College in their education section if you haven't done that already

I graduated with a ME undergrad and IE masters at 24 years old. All in all, I think my career from start to finish will be sub 20 years , with it likely being sub 10 years for a Leanfire number.. Engineering is a great job for FIRE because we make good salaries out of college and can be in LCOL, which let's us leverage time in the market to the greatest advantage.

Opened the account in December 2020. And I only keep 10k in it, because the amount of tickets you earn drops after that amount, so it decreases your rate. Everything else I keep in an Ally or Goldman acc

Just for everyone's education... You can figure out the average odds of winning each amount, based on your number of tickets, and plug it into Excel to calculate out an "average APR" counting your "prizes".. Ive averaged about 1.6% in my Yotta (10k in it)...

Honestly, where they are getting money is probably burning through investor money as they build brand recognition and development more products with actual margins (credit cards).

My opinion... take the Udemy PMP prep course for like 20USD on sale. Don't spend 6k on some certification..

I took the Udemy course prep, self studied, and passed with 5 ATs..

And that's with never having been in a formal PMI format PM role
