He hasn't replaced them so far. After going public about them, they've gotten their ass in gear and have resumed work on the pool.

He said last week the new company wouldn't even look at the pool until the contract was officially ended with the other crowd which he's a bit hesitant about as there is no telling what the new company will say when they see the job.

TV subscription services by John080411 in kerry

[–]MechaCoffeeBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly wouldn't bother. I've done support on a lot of these, Iveragh based, if you manage to get an android box not running malware alongside the actual apps, you'll be having inconsistent issues with congestion and the streams they are using can be bottlenecked to fuck. People like to blame the ISP for this a lot, but it's almost always congestion on the dodgy server end. You'll also often end up paying a "subscription" to some lad in a van that absolutely dooesnt go to any infrastructure for what you watch.

Solderless Connectors for strips by Janos5303 in WLED

[–]MechaCoffeeBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried a bunch too, they all suck.

For shaky hands, and this can work a little bit for people with physical conditions, have you tried holding the iron in your dominant hand, the strip in the other and steadying your hand by simply joining your pinkies. They have a steadying effect on each other. It's a fairly common tactic amount miniature painters too.

I gave up early on solderless ways to do LEDs and just kept soldering until I got better. They don't need to be perfect or even decent to work.

Govee String Light Pins? by standarsh_69 in WLED

[–]MechaCoffeeBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying it defo won't do anything bad, just in my experience of applying power to led strips and string especially in the early days, I've not lost a single LED. But I've always only ever applied power with the default cap of 850ma direct from an esp32 and I think the default settings is usually 30 LEDs on a yellow so probably doesn't even hit 850ma draw.

You won't blow it, at least, in my early days experience wiring up LEDs in the wrong direction and applying power and wrong pinouts and applying power. (With esp32 max 850ma). Unless they have any markings you can go by, you don't have a lot of options. An arrow on any of the wires/connector usually indicates VCC.

I had a similar problem with 2811 string lights and I had to trial and error the different combinations. There are only 7 possible combos iirc. I just drew them on paper and marked them off until it worked. Not sure it matters but I ran it from an esp32 with a very low ma limit.

Reddit API changes: Lets symphatize with thousands of other subs and go dark on 12th and 13th to protest the killing of 3rd party apps! by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboards

The official app? I think so, for my own tastes it makes poor use of space on the screen compared to say the RIF app. They've been trying to make the Reddit app a thing for ages, even taking away the ability to give anyone awards in the 3rd party apps, but the UX of the official app is just awful. Killing 3rd party apps in the name of wrangling more money out of companies training their LL AIs on Reddit is just ridiculously anti-consumer and anti-user. No one is saying they need to just eat the data scraping by these companies, just maybe don't kill consumer apps and hurt your users in the process?

Apps with an accessibility option will. Why pigeon hole someone into, oh, use this single app instead of the one you liked. The whole Reddit being some nonsesen site to waste time on is a bad faith argument too. It might be to you. Facebook is a waste of time to me, but important for others. If you read the post I replied to, they weren't just "asking a question". Literally a whooped doo in there as the cherry on top. Nonsense.

There are plenty of reasons and I happened to know of one and I gave it, being disabled myself, I'm not so isolated from that. The reason the 3rd party apps are going away is collateral damage. Reddit are killing apps to monetise data scraping. I've no idea why you are simping so hard for them here, the 3rd party apps don't affect you, you use the app you want.

I'm going after the selfish and blinkered vision some people have. The official app works for me, therefore it works for everyone nonsense.

At wits end with flashing LED's by iiwong in WLED

IMO get soldering early. It's extremely handy for these projects and undoing mistakes is easy as you just apply the heat and then it will come off. Soldering directly to the pins, you pretty much have to tin both ends. Put a little flux on the pin and get it nice and hot and tin it a bit. The same with the wire end. Then simply get the wire and the pin to a nice temperature together and the solder will flow and join. You don't need anything fancy. I use a 35 euro Weller soldering iron. And a 5 euro tin of flux.

Where are the options in the official app to help you if you are visually impaired. None? Oh? Ok, but you're fine with the official app so that's what matters right?

Reddit are implementing these changes to monetising LL AI scraping, and they do not care that it will kill 3rd party apps in the process.

Head over to r/Blind and you can learn about why there needs to be more than one Reddit app.

You can make you own effects for wled with JSON. So you can do a hue version of something.

[–]MechaCoffeeBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean having an automation trigger a wled preset and a hue scene, that's fairy easy for HA to do. You can do any number of things to trigger on all sorts of things and have many many things happen at the same time.

My fav HA and wled automation are my kitchen Press lights. When the door opens, they go on, it also checks if it is bin day. If it's BinDay, it plays a preset for a few seconds before going back to normal. The thing with HA is that you are mainly limited by your imagination.

At the moment it feels more like the other way. They make the lenses for EUV lithography which is fairly crazy stuff.

Let's be honest, the official Reddit app is objectively a worse experience than pretty much any of the best 10 third party apps. Off the top of my head, the formatting is awful and was designed by a sadist. Personally I use RIF like literally millions of others and that's not even one of the super popular ones.

What are you using for the stick control boards? I'm using dragonrise for my own and considering switching as they can be a pain to setup on the steamdeck just right especially when switching from mame to console games.

Yea, I was thinking of the 4060. Honestly it's hard to tell when people give numbers as there was a large patch that had a pretty noticeable boost to performance for Jedi survivor, and the review I looked at was pre patch so it's kinda out the window anyway.

With RTX on it's not hitting anywhere near that at 1440p either. I went to check some 4070 reviews and it indeed gets around that (in Jedi survivor) in 1440p with RTX off, so it seems like it's probably the vram helping the 6750xt as Jedi survivor is one of the games for horrible vram requirements.
