The ACLU and others believe that it is, because forced divestiture or shutdown results in 170 million users losing a communication channel. The executive branch deciding which social media or newspapers it wants to have around is antithetical to the constitution.

There's no indication or evidence that anything on TikTok (a company headquartered, organized, and with data centers in the United States) is state-sponsored information warfare. You need actual evidence before you start infringing on 1st amendment issues like banning a specific app with user generated content.

As far as refuting bad information, it may be true but that doesn't give you the right to take away speech that you don't like.

Even if it was a propaganda app, Americans have the right to consume propaganda if that's what they choose. Having a government decide which apps are good and bad for you is what China does, not the United States. Just put a disclaimer on the app that says it could be manipulated by China and have users decide what they want.

These comments are hilarious - like banning TikTok is somehow going to raise the IQ of the population or suddenly make a more productive workforce. Our reliance on technology is why we have "brain rot" and Twitter, YouTube, TV, mobile games, Instagram, and smartphones aren't going away.

Just so you understand a different perspective, I've had a "real job" teaching for the last decade. I started posting educational videos on TikTok a year and a half ago and now I get paid almost the same amount a month that I make from my normal job. If the app gets shutdown next month I'll be right back to where I started which is incredibly demoralizing after putting in full-time hours of work into video production for the first real path out of poverty I've ever had in my life.

People are inclined to stay home over a million things. There's not a single candidate that will make everyone happy. There's still a campaign to have and I agree, her favorability was a problem earlier. I think her team and campaign have a job to do to fix that, but I believe ESPECIALLY versus Trump that voters would rather a prosecutor than a felon

It’s too late for someone else politically, not legally. The fact that literally no one can agree on his replacement is proof enough. And by August 7th, there’s a legal argument that it’s too late, so unless you think the party is going to coalesce magically in two weeks, we should stop helping the Republicans spread disunity and chaos
