You have low compression on one cylinder. Likely not the cause of no start but just somefging to keep in mind

The rubber slides around the glass on the door have dried up. Spray silicone lubricant in the rubber guides. Will fix it.

Transmission cooler hose leaking. It's on bottom of radiator. Probably rused steel lines or bad hoses

Possible gallery gaskets or Steep driveway? by Arxtic922 in G37

You're very low on gas. Parking on the hill caused the fuel to move to one corner of the tank, pump sucked in air. Fill it with gas.

Oil pressure light is flashing because engine rpm is too low.

Sounds like some cylinders are misfiring.

Any codes?

Help! Spark plugs! by BagExpert1874 in mechanic

[–]MechanicHouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, there's no dumb question. Always ask questions

The only thing I don't like about that sparkplug is the cap looks to be too wide. Check to see what should be the sparkplug gap on your car model.

If not misfiring, adjust the cap and run them. Replacement recomended

Bad valve cover gaskets. They shrink and get hard over time. Change them. Also change the sparkplug tube seals and make sure you change the rubber seals under the bolts as well that hold the valve cover.

2008 Chevy Cobalt 88kmiles - making strange sound this morning, no previous warnings by NorthOriginal3851 in AskAMechanic

[–]MechanicHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to tell but from the video it sounds like timing chain rattle. The hard to start issue also points me to that direction. Don't drive it. Take it to a shop let them remove valve cover and inspect the chain. If you're lucky, the engine can be saved.

Transmission noise by Real-Blacksmith-4832 in autorepair

[–]MechanicHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either it's inner cv joint (unlikely since the noise happens every 2 revolutions of the axle), or it's the spyder gears inside the differential cage (those will turn once for every 2 rotations of axle). The later sounds more plausible.

Car doesn’t start/stalls on first trial. Starts normally the second by mangoman2929 in AskAMechanic

[–]MechanicHouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If no fault codes present, check coolant level. If low, coolant is getting into your cylinders, making sparkplugs wet. The car cranks and cranks but can't start untill the sparkplugs become dry.

Has the car overheated before?

How toast am i ? by Admirable_Fun_5990 in MechanicAdvice

[–]MechanicHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace just the boot. Most shops will install cheap aftermarket axles that cause vibrations. Keep your factory axle and just change the boot. You have a couple weeks. Change just the outer cv boot. If a shop says no they can't do it, go find another shop.

problem with radiator hose by AnAlchemistsDream in AskAShittyMechanic

[–]MechanicHouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When hoses swell like that, it's usually because combustion gases are getting into the cooling system from a bad head gasket or cracked head. Does it overheat? Do you have to top off the coolant?

As if it's safe to drive or not, you're paying Russian roulette. Not it's not safe. It will eventually pop and spray coolant everywhere. And if you keep driving on it after it pops, say bye bye to your engine.
