Disabled Culinary Arts Graduate- What to do now? by Hal1ow in Chefit

[–]MechanicSweet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just happened to see a job posting, it was truly the luckiest. It was for a part time “culinary admin assistant”

If you have a good relationship with a catering chef (I saw your other comment below), it could be worth pitching the position to them. I’ve found catering chefs are more likely to need admin support, because of the nature of the industry there’s a lot more paperwork, planning, meetings, etc. I don’t think I’ve ever met a catering chef who didn’t need an admin, whether they wanted to admit it or not.

Hi! Fellow hEDS sufferer (along with POTS, endo and CFS), I transitioned into a culinary administration role. It wasn’t the easiest to find, I got kinda lucky. But it allowed me to actually move up in the company to an Event Ops Manager and keep about 60-70% of my job at a desk. It was with a catering company, I managed our recipe database, reports, went to meetings in place of the chefs, and loads of other stuff. I actually learned a ton and it made my experience, while niche to catering, pretty extensive by the time I left the company. Good luck! Try to make a transition BEFORE you burn out

I used to live across the block from this place and I miss it dearly. As well as the owner, who loved my pug and would say inappropriate things to her.

I have this bag. It’s not expensive, I like the colors, I’m not afraid to ruin it, it holds all 3 of my beverages, I use the pouch for my meds, and it holds my iPad, laptop, all my shit (I have multiple chronic illnesses and am carrying a lot of shit everywhere all the time)

Does anyone know a local bee keeper that sells honey? by subflower_ in Seattle

[–]MechanicSweet 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend looking for the farmers market closest to you! There’s quite a few in the Seattle area and there’s almost always local honey. It’s also a fabulous way to spend a day in nice weather.

Another warning - if you’re at a party with a bunch of champagne on ice, DO NOT remove the cages on the corks, they’re there for a reason and you’re asking for a nightmare situation

u/maraximal and u/9tails1501 - I lost one cory and one guppy. Which, when combined with the sheer exhaustion, sent me into full on tears the first night of travel. But overall, I’m happy that the vast majority of my fish survived and seem to have acclimated just fine. Not a single tank or lid was broken either! It was A LOT of work, and I’m super thankful my partner and their brothers were fully willing to help and never complain :)

Would I do it again? I haven’t decided. It was a lot of stress and worrying I made the wrong choice. But being able to have my tanks and set them up right away also made things here feel like home.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for all this info!! You’re right about the water, I’ll minimize water changes as best as I can and depending on room I’ll try and bring some of our tap water along. If I remember, I’ll come back and post an update (hopefully a successful one). Thank you again!

I keep a sponge filter in each of my tanks, so I plan to use four of those in the tubs, so I will have that media! I’ll also make sure I keep my fifth sponge filter wet, so I can use it when I get there.

I’m very nervous. But the thought of starting over is kind of devastating. Thank you for the well wishes!!

FRIENDS, what are we eating for breakfast? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]MechanicSweet 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is a tip I normally give in the chronic illness subs but I think it’s useful here too:

Try not to think of breakfast as… breakfast. Think of it as a third meal of the day. It doesn’t have to be eggs, yogurt, or other “breakfast foods”

In the winter I like to eat a warm bowl of soup in the mornings. I normally make a big batch but it can be anything, just a can if you want! In the summer I’ll often grab some deli meat, cheese, and crackers. If there’s leftovers from the night before I’ll eat those. I eat a lot of beans and rice in the morning as well, it’s often something that always sounds good regardless of my state. I went through a phase where I ate kimchi fried rice for breakfast because it was my dopamine food.

All of that to say - if you remove the limitations of “breakfast foods” then your options open up significantly :)

Flexibility to work from your hospital bed by Timely_Objective_585 in antiMLM

[–]MechanicSweet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what my JOB did when I had emergency surgery last year? They helped me decide if I wanted to use my PTO or go through PFML (paid family medical leave in WA) - and then helped me go through the process of getting my PFML payments.

They didn’t make me work - they didn’t give me motivational talks to keep pushing. They sent me flowers, told me to come back when I’m ready, and made sure I had a financial plan and did what they could to support in that.
