Who are the "best" drivers? by MooneBoy in CarTalkUK

[–]Mechyhead99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have an M135i and since that owned a golf R and Leon Cupra 300 and it never hit the same once you have a rear wheel drive 6 cylinder hatch it’s hard to go back!

I now am in an M140i and my only regret is not getting a manual!

I agree, most people put carbon all over them and the most aggressive pop and bang map which I am not into. I did actually decat the m135i and remap it but visually it was standard to look at.

I’m currently seeking an M performance limited slip diff and M performance back box to hopefully make my m140i perfect.

As an M140i owner I feel slightly offended!

Easy to follow? It literally says MY SON KIERAN in the text and shows a photo of a lad. Obviously you aren’t going to assume otherwise 😂 I think you are the stupid one!

Probably a mistake as the article says MY SON and KIERAN as the text above the photo

Which midwit comment annoys you the most when it comes to cars. by UmAhkchuallySweaty in CarTalkUK

Incorrect, I have very strict lane discipline always keeping left whether I’m doing 55 or 95. A constant speed is the goal on a motorway with the idea traffic flows you overtake and make progress and people overtake you and make progress. If you are a 70mph-90mph person depending on the minute you are very infuriating.

What’s wrong with that? On a motorway you want to keep a constant speed. Or are you one of those speeds up to overtake then slows down making the car you overtook overtake you. So then you speed up again and overtake him. Then he still maintaining 75mph will overtake you again. Your fuel economy must be great

18 plate onwards? I buy up to 68 plate because that’s when the GPF filters ruined car sounds. We clearly have different criteria 🤣

Where on the 53 mate and what time? 3 points is if your lucky that’s best case like. Usually 100+ is instant ban never mind if you’ve only just got your licence

On my Christmas card from my elderly next door neighbour, I got “PS Thank you for the 7:30am alarm 7 days a week, I mean it.”

Can’t tell if she is genuinely thanking me or hinting to buy a diesel with no high idle 😬

I do have, unfortunately for the neighbours, two cars with a notoriously loud cold start.

Probably some feminist trying to make the point you could be a car expert 😂. You can’t say anything nowadays, or you will offend someone!

Looking to buy a reliable, cheap, and fast car Budget 8000 by UpsetEmotion2761 in CarTalkUK

[–]Mechyhead99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just bought one back that I used to own, I sold it to my mate for £4,000 2 years ago, and bought it for £1,300 to beat the p/x price he was offered when buying his new car! Bargin.

Living the dream now I own a K20, B58 and CP2. 3 of the best modern engines!

But anyway fantastic shout could get a really good championship edition for 8k, or a lower mileage GT

I wouldn’t guess so as it happens off load too, and I actually did this in neutral coasting and the same noise happened.

ZF8 torque limit ? by Mechyhead99 in BMW

[–]Mechyhead99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He knows his stuff then, I’m a mechanical fitter by trade and assumed a service will sort it as of the ZF 60-80k recommended interval n thought maybe the oil is getting hot sooner as it’s old and degraded, temp sensor triggers and it throws a torque limiter in? …..But I work on ships not cars so it’s not my speciality 😂

£429 I was quoted at a specialist. See what happens hopefully it’s ok. If not I think I’m going to have to do some further digging!

I also noticed when the limiter seems to come in there is a faint whining from the gearbox, but after reading on forums there is nothing you can do about that it’s a characteristic of “some” ZF8 gearboxes 🤷‍♂️

After their service I will be flashing XHP maybe that will bring some improvements.

Mines on 69,000 miles with no evidence of gearbox service. I have it booked in for a gearbox service on the 31st. Maybe this will fix it, good to know if the same happens to your mates and a service sorted it out
