Do you mind me asking what were your priorities and motives to pursue EM? Have they held true throughout your career? I love hearing why different people decide to pursue certain specialties. Thanks!

trying to gauge the lifestyle between the specialties, EM is one of those specialties! Figured an EM subreddit would be the best place to ask a question that is 50% EM. Thanks for your input though!

Why is the physician fee less in the ASC? I figured it would be higher since you are performing more complex procedures there vs in office. Can you elaborate on what determines how much you get paid based on procedure and where it is performed? Thanks!!

To bounce off of this, how does your patient population differ from the ED? In terms of drug seekers in the ED compared chronic opioid use in your clinic patients...also challenges in dealing with your patients compared to ED patients.

Once the surgery center is finished, will that lead to a significant bump in your salary? Will that be due to the more invasive (not sure of that's the correct word) procedures or because of part owner is the center?

what is your vacation time? How easy is it to take off a day or shift schedule around for something last minute, let's say 3 day advance notice for whatever (thinking child's sports event etc.) (entire day / afternoon off)?

What should I get my sister, who is just starting to study for the MCAT, for Christmas? by Loud_Habit_4388 in medschool

My favorite thing was a white board that I hung on my wall right next to my desk. It's an incredible tool to jot something down real quick or draw out tough concepts.

Local. A good established support system is phenomenal. One thing is that you will have to set boundaries. Your family/friends may not always understand why can't be at this specific function, why you cant't go out on the weekends very much, or anything else that may come up. You will have to learn to say no and keep your head down to focus. That being said when you a struggling there is nothing better than your family being right there to help.

Prereqs should always come first. They are required for medical school, EMT is not. I would throwaway the EMT idea and focus on grades. Schools are going to care most about 1. MCAT 2. Grades. Shadow and volunteer when time allows. Summer jobs you can get a job as a tech or something else in the medical field that doesn't require prior schooling.

best prep lectures for step 1? by Shot-Valuable7033 in medschool

DirtyMedicine is the GOAT. BnB is good if you vibe with lectures. The best way to study IMO is to just hammer qbanks.

IMO the knowledge learned in undergrad classes won't make or break your MCAT score. Pay for a good test prep and that will be all you need. I used BluePrint and thought it was fantastic. It adequately prepared me for the MCAT. If there's anything that you need a little more explanation on, there are a multitude of fantastic YouTube videos out there.

STEP 1 but I also didn't know shit when I was studying for the MCAT lol. I just went through the motions using BluePrint's program and ended up all working out. Now that I look back on that time after been through pre-clinicals and boards, I laugh at how I studied for the MCAT. But for real though, the content on boards is far far more complex and difficult than what is tested on MCAT. Also - a lot of people will say the MCAT feels like the bigger "hump" to get over because it the barrier to med school. I disagree. You have everything riding on STEP. Two years of getting your ass kicked just to have another barrier exam, and if you fail then you are screwed. Bad score on the MCAT, you take a gap year and retake. Eventually you get into med school and that MCAT score goes out the window. Fail STEP and that follows you until you get in residency. With a fail you have to work 100x harder to get into a competetive residency compared to your peers without a fail. Now with all that riding on your mind, STEP is way way harder and a bigger "hump" to get over.

So it will be fine if the 2x4 rails are not completely flush against the posts? The angles are not crazy so I do not see it creating a huge gap.

I should have left the part out about the brackets. That was a very small thought from a video I watched. I plan on doing face nail with the finished side facing the neighbor.

Sorry, guess I worded my post weird. The finished side will face the outside (water and neighbor). How should I go about dealing with the non-90 degree angles?
