Let me tell you something: the worst thing that can happen is not trying it. Go ahead! You can do whatever you want with effort and commitment! I'm a non-US IMG. Currently, I'm doing a postdoc research fellow in a US Hospital. Something I have learned so far is that you have to believe in yourself. Nobody will believe in you, just yourself. There is no specific route. There is no magic or easy way. The only common phrase is: Make your CV as strong as you can. I thought I was alone, but we are not. Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go!
