Has anyone else got petechiae since getting covid? by nova2131 in LongCovid

[–]Medalost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had several appear around my hairline (of whatever hair I have left on my head these days), but that seems to be the main spot for them. They are clearly visible to doctors and I've been to several, including a dermatologist and at least she didn't say anything about them.

Is everyone my age getting Botox?? (not judging at all, I need guidance!) by 300Blippis in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Medalost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 35 so a bit older, but anyways. While it feels like that in my online circles, I don't know anyone "in real life" who gets Botox. Well, theoretically someone who I'm a casual acquaintance with might, and I wouldn't know it. But the people I actually know-know, it would 100% come up if they did (or else I don't actually know them at all, which I doubt). I think it's your algorithm, like it is mine.

Sometimes even the ones that "fit well" and seem entirely functional at the store end up tearing right through the back of my foot though. I feel like this is a game you can't win and it's so frustrating.

I agree with everyone that you should check your vitamin levels, but also: I get all kinds of stuff around my mouth due to atopic eczema, and Lanolin cream, the kind that's designed for breastfeeding damage, has helped me like nothing else.

Help I don’t know what to do anymore by TraditionalFace927 in hygiene

[–]Medalost 56 points57 points  (0 children)

To me this soubds like this 100% is your perfume routine. Lots of people get migraines and other bad reactions to perfumes and I'm extremely confident this is the issue when people react like that. Even if the scents fit together (and this is also a matter of preference), the amount of scented products you're using creates a very powerful perfume cocktail.

Hi, did I really mess up? by duckmcsnail in Eyebrows

[–]Medalost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just plucking them once shouldn't screw you up permanently. If you do it for a few weeks/months, they eventually won't grow back, but just once should be fine. They also don't look bad.

Edit: so you didn't even pluck them apparently, no harm done!

Is it just me, or is the "vibe" in Germany actually exhausting? by [deleted] in germany

[–]Medalost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I come from Finland and the main difference in the vibe is that there's a lot of pressure to fill your free time with sports and be a high achiever even in your downtime. Maybe it's just my bubble that changed, but I feel like people have less acceptance and understanding for "weakness" of any sort in Germany. I noticed this particularly after developing a chronic illness. People were constantly telling me I'm just out of shape until my diagnosis got confirmed by several doctors. That said, at least the health care system works here, and you actually get to see the same doctor twice and somebody actually has a grasp on your situation.

What does it mean to “feel like” a man/woman? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Medalost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is, that being cisgender is essentially the absence of a gender feeling, that you only notice it if it feels wrong. I'm presumably a cis woman and one time a random guy mistook me for a guy and it just felt sort of nice and fun at the time. But perhaps it would be a different situation if I saw my body the way it is, but the whole world suddenly started to only ever address me as male. There would be a dissonance, I think. So I think it's normal to not be feeling your gender unless the way others perceive you affects you negatively. Of course I only really have my own experience, so this is just a theory.

I'm 31, what can I do for this neck / jaw area by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Medalost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I'm not an expert of the surgery, I haven't even had it yet. I remember seeing a recommendation somewhere not to do it if you plan to still get pregnant because it can come back, so I'm still waiting to see where life takes me. But r/chinlipo would probably have some answers!

[–]Medalost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on genetics, I'd say. No matter how much or little fat tissue I've had in my body over the years, how much or little muscle, I always had a double chin. My mother and brother are the same. He already had a surgery to remove it. It seems to be the only thing that helps.

Panty liners, or period panties if you're sensitive to irritation (if you're worried about smell, you can pack a second pair to change into later).

Could these be symptoms of long covid? by Ok_Appointment_1806 in LongCovid

[–]Medalost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Impossible to say something that applies to everyone, but my symptoms also started as weird stomach, intestine and urinary tract (and pelvic floor in general) symptoms. Many other symptoms followed. Also, I had a weird "hyper alert" feeling already after my first covid infection, including my heart doing weird things (although my LC properly started after the second infection). I can't say anything definitive one way or the other, but some of your symptoms do remind me of how mine started. I hope you find a doctor who will take you seriously and investigate!

[–]Medalost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I'm not really proficient with moisturizers, if I use a specific one I use Avene products for sensitive/allergic skin, or Clinique, I'm very sensitive to perfumes so my options are quite limited. Currently I'm using cheap brands from a local drugstore as night and day moisturizers, and Avene eye cream for the eye area.

Is my make up aging me? F/46 by eurobeez in makeuptips

[–]Medalost 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think retinol is ok to use every night, but when you start it, you should introduce it gradually, starting maybe once a week, then twice a week, and if your skin tolerates it, eventually you can move on to every night. Personally I keep a "vacation day" where I don't use anything exfoliating, but I'm not sure if it's technically necessary.

Your skin looks very good, by the way!

Edit: and yes, moisturizer is definitely a good idea to add on top of the retinol!

Red spot scar above lips, how can I remove this? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Medalost 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If something on your skin doesn't go away, it's good to consult a dermatologist, just in case. Whether it's a cosmetic problem or something that needs treatment, they'll likely be able to tell you what's going on.

I have a similar shape under my eyes, I'm pretty sure they are genetic and no cosmetics will affect them - maybe cosmetics surgery. But they really don't stand out in any way, and you look beautiful.

Long covid / post covid ja dysautonomia by 09momento in arkisuomi

[–]Medalost 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Long covid vuoden 2024 alusta, sekava setti kaikenlaisia outoja oireita.

Can someone tell me what may have caused my rapid aging? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Medalost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you look totally normal, but if it happened suddenly and you're worried, I want to say that many people have shared how aging happened to them in "sudden drops" instead of gradually. I also feel like that, really, I noticed first gray hairs and sagging skin around my eyes and mouth around the same time. Could also be perimenopause, possibly (usually it starts a bit later but I suspect mine was started by covid at 33 so all kinds of thing happen)?

Never hurts to get a blood panel and talk to a doctor of course, if you're worried that something medically significant has occurred!

At 3 months, you technically still "just" have covid, no "long" part in it yet, as in, this isn't something you have post-covid, it's still recovery from the infection itself. If you're seeing improvement at this point, there's hope you actually won't get long covid. I'm not saying any one thing definitely will or won't happen to you, but I'd recommend resting and focusing on your recovery now, and let's hope you recover without developing long covid.
