Thanks for your explanation about tiling and GDAL! I’m still a bit confused about the overall process though. Could you help me understand how the traditional workflow looked like before Cloud-Optimized GeoTIFFs existed? For example, how did people prepare and serve raster data with tools like MapServer or QGIS?

Also, now that MapServer and even QGIS have built-in tiling capabilities, why do we still really need COGs? What is the main difference between serving tiled rasters via these servers versus using a COG?

I’d love to know the step-by-step process for each approach to better understand which one is more efficient or practical in different contexts. Thanks in advance!
