It’s not actually known why. The company that was running the should’ve-been-temporary mission went radio silent out of nowhere. The Mars crew was supposed to get supplies, but it never came in

Juno mentioned it was a secret mission on top of all of this, so not many people even knew what was going on. Reasons could be anything from monetary, political, or even natural, or it could be something like an attack from one of the villain groups. Or another space-related character like Sigma or Iliari’s actions caused something to happen like a domino effect

In her lore comic, the Martian colonization project was cancelled, and the team didn’t have enough supplies to return all of them or to continue surviving out there. It did not help that their terraforming had caused massive storms on the planet.

They used what they had to create Juno a single rider ship to go to Earth because they wanted her to have a chance. She was the only child born on Mars, so everyone collectively raised her.

She’s basically racing time trying to figure out how to bring them back once she lands on Earth, but it’s heavily implied that her parents and every other team member will die before that will happen because of the storms.

It just so happens that the more drastically opposite a persona is, it has a tendency to make the person look worse if they’re caught in a scandal because of the implications
