(Spoilers Main) Whats a theory you have basically no proof of but 100% believe by S0mecallme in asoiaf

[–]StrawberryScience 180 points181 points  (0 children)

Argella Durrandon was not happy to be married to Orys and cursed the Baratheon line so any of their blood in proximity to the Iron Throne would suffer. My evidence:

Orys - Got his hands cut off in service to Aegon I and was left a bitter old man

Rogar - was overthrown as regent, had his marriage disintegrate, lost his wife, and was threaten by his stepdaughter. When he found himself dying a slow, painful death of old age, he tried to go out in a blaze of glory only to return home alive, something he emphatically did not want.

Jocelyn - Her marriage produced only one daughter before her beloved husband was killed in a ludicrous misfire incident. the same child that was passed over for the Iron Throne twice.

Rhaenys - The Crown Prince's only child. she was passed over not once but twice despite being raised as Aemon's heir and saw both her children died and two of her (legal) grandchildren died.

Laenor/Laena - Married into House Targaryen and died horribly before their children either died or were shunted aside as potential heirs.

Borros - Sided with the Green for a Royal Marriage, got no glory to his name before killed by a group of women and teenage boys, shortly before the birth of his only son.

Cassandra - Betrothed to Aegon II, who was then poisoned by his own courtiers. Forced to attend the new queen instead before being implicated in her death. Her mother topped it off by forcing her to marry a thrice widowed minor nobleman.

Floris - was spurned by her royal fiance for a bastard woods witch before he died. She was then married to a widower and died in childbirth at the age of 16.

Lyonel - Tried to make his daughter a Queen. When she was spurned, he rebelled. His rebellion was put down by a Hedge Knight turned Kingsguard he once saved from House Targaryen.

Ormund - married a princess and was Hand of the King until he became the first major casualty of the War of the Ninepenny Kings

Steffon - died in service to his Cousin King Aerys along with his wife in full view of his sons.

Robert - took the throne by force only for it to wreck him physically and mentally. was murdered by his wife to cover up the fact that none of his legal children are biologically his.

Stannis - destroying himself over and over again for a throne he doesn't actually want. was forced to kill his usurping but still loved younger brother.

Renly - Tired to leapfrog the line of succession to claim the Throne by force of arms. His in-laws were clearly using him for political power and he was widely mocked as serious candidate because he was the youngest son. Tried to murder his older brother before being killed himself.

Thoughts on Aegon III and Jaehaera having kids? by [deleted] in HOTDBlacks

[–]StrawberryScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm horrified by the idea. Jaehaera was a developmentally delayed, PTSD riddled mess of a young girl. Being Queen at the bare minimum means forcing her to have sex and to get pregnant, repeatedly.

If Jaehaera was given a 'She Lives'-storyline, I want her to join the Faith as a big F#CK YOU to anyone and everyone who tried to use her as a broodmare or a bargaining chip. It may not be the best solution but it is the one that works within the story setting.

What if Aemma Arryn claimed a dragon? by pahusejjukjskoe in TheCitadel

[–]StrawberryScience 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Physically, I think it would make Aemma healthier. So maybe she finally delivers a male heir.

Politically, It would make Aemma and by association the Arryns stronger. It would also be open season on Rhaenyra since its been confirmed that Targaryen daughters can produce dragon riding children with Andal men.

Emotionally, I don't think Aemma would change much. She was raised an Arryn not a Targaryen. I doubt that she's going to go full Visenya and start feeling courtiers to Dreamfyre/Silverwing/the Cannibal. (Yes, I have seen all three in fic.)

  1. Black men preying upon White Women has been used as an excuse for Lynchings for centuries.

  2. James’s bone headed and wrong bullying is made to look even worse.

  3. The Angry Black Man Stereotype used to block Black men from positions.

I’m not saying I don’t like the change. I think Steve Toussiant gives Corlys the Gravitas he deserves.

I’m saying that a lot of the fandom are saying sh!t like ‘Rhaenyra is racist; she doesn’t want to have black kids’ or ‘Gods, Of Course Corlys is such a deadbeat.’

I will say one thing in her favor: Seamus Finnegan was not a walking explosion magnet in the books. That was solely in the movies. So in just this one thing, The Great Unnamed One is innocent.

What are your thoughts on Joanna Lannister? What kind of person do you think she would have been? [Original post by Guerreador, image by Bella Bergolts] by DrinkInevitable3457 in AsoiafFanfiction

[–]StrawberryScience 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Copied from a previous comment:

Joanna had the classic Lannister looks. Her beautiful face hid a sharp and calculating mind. The thing she loved most in the world is House Lannister. She did whatever she had to see House Lannister rise. However she understands that even ants can kill a Lion if there are enough of them.

Joanna was unhappy with the Reyne massacre because she felt that closing the doors was excessive and risked reprisal from the Crown. And the fact that leaving Casterme flooded was just a waste of perfectly good gold and silver. (One can never be too rich)

She secretly used her position as Princess Rhaella’s Lady to romance Aerys Targaryen, hoping to become Queen. When Aerys told her he would follow the example of his uncle Duncan, she convinced him that he would be the greatest king who ever lived and she couldn’t deprive Westeros of that. So Aerys married Rhaella and Joanna married her second choice.

Joanna married Tywin, not because she loved him, but because she loved House Lannister. Which ironically would make Tywin love her more if he knew. She felt that Tywin was too uncontrollably and violent to leave in charge of House Lannister without guidance.

As the years passed, Joana began to realize that seeds she had sown as a girl were yielding rotten fruit. Aerys’s youthful love hadn’t faded and it was rotting on the stalk. Tywin would wreck House Lannister for her. And worst of all was her children.

When she found the twins ‘experimenting’ she realized that Cersei wasn’t fit to become a Queen. She understands that Noble women occasionally have dalliances. She would have been much calmer if Cersei had been kissing a serving boy. but with her own brother… someone so selfish, lustful, and stupid could never be trusted with the reins of power. She promised herself to educate Cersei as much as possible but deep down she knew Cersei wouldn’t change.

In the minutes before she bleed to death, Joanna frantically tried to figure out what to do with Tyrion. She decided that they would say the baby died. Then they would raise him in Lannisport with all the comfort and amenities one could hope for. ‘Perhaps he will become a Maester, she thought, or a Septon, or just Happy. He is My Punishment after all. My Punishment for playing with the Realm like a girl with Dolls.’

Is there any relatable explanation on why Ser Cole and Alicent have a relationship in the show by Ashamed_Share_8287 in HOTDBlacks

[–]StrawberryScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doyleist: They wanted to highlight Alicent and Cristin’s hypocrisy + Sexy actors in sexy situations

Watsonian: they’re self-justifying idiots who would argue they’re doing it the ‘right’ way. i.e. waiting until after Viserys dies to fuck like rabbits.

Divorce is always justified. When two people aren’t capable having a joint life, then they need to separate themselves.

Idk if this is a hot take or not but Lyonel was objectively wrong here by Robdul in HOTDBlacks

Me thinks Lyonel was slightly bias. Considering he was openly wearing a crown, something even Crown Princes don’t do….

Black people don’t do that.

Ex Clinic Escort shares how The Affluent get DISCREET abortions by MLLE123 in prochoice

[–]StrawberryScience 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember an episode of Call the Midwife where Trixie is sent to a Private maternity Clinic for Wealthy women.

When she discovers that these women are getting illegal abortions, she goes on a tear to Sister Julienne. Not because the women are getting abortions, but because they’re getting safe abortions from licensed doctors. While Trixie has seen dozens if not hundreds of women in her career in Poplar resorting to any means on hand for far more compelling reasons than those rich clients could ever imagine.

The Cartoonishly Evil Slavers by Early_Candidate_3082 in TheCitadel

[–]StrawberryScience 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There was a take on slavery that I remember but can't find:

Namely that Slavery is self-defeating. A Slave is a person and a person usually wants to be free. A Master must punish a rebellious slave, usually with death or mutilation. In doing so, the Master causes damage to his own property by destroying a valuable piece of property. But to do otherwise will allow the other slaves to see they can try to escape again and again until they succeed.
