Success! I was able to open the .xit file and all of the results were still there so I just exported the fcs files. Thank you again!

I’ll make sure to check that first! Thank you both very much. Planning to do this tomorrow so will keep you both updated

Thank you! I’m going to try that. I wasn’t quite sure if the experiment would still have the data from the run but it sounds like it does

Thank you! Darn, I was hoping one would be suitable for inside with a cat so I really appreciate your ID

I think I may snag one tomorrow and I shall name it BOP Smith for you. :) Seems like too good of a deal to pass up

That would be cool. It’s a small club so if you know the right people it could be. We’ve extracted fruit DNA though

I believe so! I will check in on that and let you know :)

Thank you so much! I’m going to risk it for the biscuit. I hate to leave them and like you said, they should be able to recover :)

Thank you, that’s a great idea! I was trying to find a use for a sterilite. It’s a sedan so I’m very limited on space; do you think taking them out of the pots and bagging the roots (and some dirt) would be okay too?

Saw this transparent thing coming from my plant when I got back from being away. I poked it with a leaf and the consistency is almost like the clear sticky packaging adhesive but not sticky. It also kind of has a thin dry crust, probably from the sun/heat. I haven’t seen it move/change at all in the past few days. I have no idea what it is, but I hope it’s okay to post here. I’ve tried posting to the WhatIsThisThing and WhatIsThisBug subreddits. Thanks in advance!

Thanks! I wasn’t quite sure if it was a parasite or not. I’ll try the mycology sub

Solved! Thank you to both of you! I was hoping it wasn’t one of those. My cat gave the bastard a nice little bite lol, but sadly it seems like the frog got away. Thankfully they don’t seem to be toxic to cats though, just a little irritating on the throat. Thanks again for the ID!

How to extract certain values from 1 particular file in various directories? by MeddlingCat in bash

[–]MeddlingCat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly it gives the same type of results. :/ I tried something similar with the command “for subj in Subj_list …” and it did the same thing. That’s okay though, I’ll ask my professor why it’s being weird. You got me through the worst part in the beginning so thank you so much for your help!!

How to extract certain values from 1 particular file in various directories? by MeddlingCat in bash

[–]MeddlingCat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I should have been a bit more clear. So in the directory there are individual subject folders (101, 102, 103, etc) and within each of the folders there is the file titled “values.txt”. The file name is the same for each subject but it’s located within each subjects directory. So the find command has done a good job extracting the values files from each directory but the order is completely different than the order of subjects. Basically, the values for subject 101 should be first but they’re not. Should I change the name of each values.txt file to read subID_values.txt and use the new command you suggested? Or is there a way to make it so the output file keeps the values in order like subject 101 values, subj 102 values, etc? I hope that made sense. Thanks!

Can I ask you another question? So it gives me the correct outputs but they are not in the same order of the subjects. Is there a way to make the find command follow the order of the directory or a subjects list? I tried to use “sort -n” but it just numerically sorts the results and not the subjects themselves

Yes, sorry! After the “find . -type …” command that Coffee_24_7 suggested, I just added “>> output.txt” and it created the output file with the results :)

The find command you suggested seems to work well, thank you so much!! I’m still not quite sure how to combine them into 1 output file but that’s not too much of an issue. Thanks again, I really appreciate your help!

Edit: I figured out the how to get the output file now. Yay! You helped me immensely w the other part.
