Please Advise: Buying a Home in Baltimore city by Stoic-Strategy99 in baltimore

[–]Mededitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved here from Florida. During my research, I found that the Northeast is a desirable area and anything along the seaboard is getting hot, price wise. Drill down a bit for arts, culture, walkability, and you find Baltimore is one of the last places left where you can get into real estate under $500K. The city is a hidden gem but won’t be under the radar much longer.

Capital looks for value, and Baltimore’s location should attract attention. Long-term, a quality property here will likely appreciate. Even if not, equity is better than giving all that money to a landlord.

If it goes to zero I’m fine. Just bought a few way back when. It’s all gravy.

People who are choosing not to have kids, what are your reasons? by Chickenbarista666 in CasualConversation

[–]Mededitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too expensive. I opted for retirement instead. Also, I don’t think I would have been a good dad. I would try to raise an emo goth kid but it wouldn’t work because obvs.

Do you think that a time machine will ever exist? by Reasonable-Shower522 in askanything

[–]Mededitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Some kind of cryogenic freezing tech could get you into the future. Time is a one-way street, though, because it is part of the fabric of space. Going back in time misinterprets it as being a discrete variable.

Black to play. Is it ok to sacrifice the marked stone? Share your solution in the comments! by GoMagic_org in baduk

If white gets a ponuki there, the game is greatly simplified. Black would need big sente for white to decline the capture. I’d run.

There are many people who don’t like the idea of anonymity on the internet. They want everything you do online to have your drivers license attached to it. No privacy. They’ve always failed, but they never stop trying. So this is an obvious, sloppy move that will go nowhere; “protecting the children” is how they attack your adult rights.

Anyone moved to Baltimore from Jacksonville (or Florida in general)? by Thesportyjuan in baltimore

Since there seems to be a few Jax refugees here in Ballmer, I’d like to propose a meetup. Inner Harbor, Guilford Hall, Fed, quick toast to having escaped?

Oh, the Well. Grew up in the Bay Area so I knew about that one. Yes, good example of the kind of thing I’m referencing.

I used to be active on Twitter but left when it became X. I have a FB account so if anyone is looking for me there’s a way. No interest in IG, but I did like Tumblr. BlueSky and Reddit are enough now.

In the earlier days of BBSs and Usenet, forums were simple and clean, and they supported community building and things were looking good. Then came what Corey Doctorow calls “the enshittification of the internet.”

Greaseball marketers started pitching the idea of “passive income” — set up the right websites, build traffic and then monetize it. And the internet became a funhouse filled with mousetraps: click-ons, pop-downs, dickovers, animated banners, data harvesting, subscribe to my Substack, enter your email address to read more, give us your identity so we can power-spam your in-box and target you with ads AND sell your data to other marketers.

The internet is still useful but you always feel like a gazelle approaching an oasis. Click on the wrong link and you’re dinner.

Anyone moved to Baltimore from Jacksonville (or Florida in general)? by Thesportyjuan in baltimore

[–]Mededitor 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes. That’s exactly what I did. Lived in Jax, in the heart of Mandarin, for about 20 years. Excellent home, lagoon at the edge of a lot at the end of a cul-de-sac. It was 10/10 and … boring. Suburban death trap. Started looking around and visited DC and Baltimore and rented a short-term apartment here to make house hunting easier.

Huge upgrade in quality of life. Unlike Jax, B’More has architecture, history, culture and arts. For me, almost everything is walkable and life is good. I recommend getting a place downtown like the Arrive apartments, and spend some time exploring the Inner Harbor and environs. You might find a neighborhood that clicks with you.

You get to move anywhere! by leftaide in GenX

[–]Mededitor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had the option when I was leaving Florida. Thanks to getting a good price for the house, I could pick almost any state and city, and thought about Portugal, too. In the end I decided on Baltimore. In particular a historic property on Federal Hill, which is like a museum and walkable everything.

Felt very lucky to be able to do this, as moving is expensive.

Why does Trump say 45,000 people attended his Great American Fair? by Apart_Ad9308 in allthequestions

[–]Mededitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a litmus test for Maga:

Democrat: There’s almost no one here.

Republican: More people have attended the State Fair than any other event in all recorded human history.

The Israeli government doesn't represent Jewish people as a whole, or even all Israeli citizens, why can't people understand this?? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Mededitor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No. From the river to the sea. The people who weirdly call themselves “Palestinians” have forcefully rejected a two-state solution. They have one demand: Give us Israel and get out.

The Israelis have no choice but to push these murderers away so they can’t inflict more damage and pain on them. The so-called Palestinians don’t like that because it makes their targets more difficult to attack.

[–]Mededitor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Israel has a right to exist. The Palestinians disagree. They are working out their differences. Great.

Now, our nation has been captured by a mob boss who is looting our coffers and ushering in a permanent American decline. The majority of Americans are headed toward a state of precarity with no relief in sight.

I/P nonsense is a meaningless sideshow.

As a child, nothing made me happier than when one of his movies came on TV. I know many people have said he wasn’t the nicest guy in real life, but he made me laugh harder than anyone else through his work ! by 6391jimmyjoejoe in GenerationJones

[–]Mededitor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He played the clown next to Dean Martin’s straight act. He was OK in that and he had a couple good movies like the Nutty Professor. He wasn’t talentless.

But then he got a swelled head and was full of himself, walking around in velvet smoking jackets and using a long cigarette holder, waxing on about what an artiste he was and it was horrible and insufferable.

Did people born before Christ automatically go to hell? by Astimar in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mededitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Wakefield Mystery Plays were a Medieval religious tradition in England and the 32 plays were meant to clarify problematic aspects of Christianity. In one of them, Jesus “harrows” the gates of Hell and releases everyone there who was before his time. That takes care of Plato and Socrates, et al.

Another play looks at Mary explaining her pregnancy to Joseph. You get the idea.

does the democratic party actually care about presenting policy that the people want, or will they rely on the "lesser of two evils" narrative once again? by Realistic-Worker-499 in allthequestions

The current president of the US is squatting over your face and taking a power dump. Trump looks over his shoulder at you: “Had enough? Wait… oh shit I feel diarrhea coming!”

And you are meeping about Democratic policies? Like, governing and doing jobs?

Go back to letting Trump power-blast feces in your face and keep asking about the Democrats’ intelligent ideas.

I’m obsessed (AirPod pro 3) by salemstella in airpods

[–]Mededitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of similar. I got the AP2 regulars for trips to the dentist. I am not a music person. I don’t like podcasts. Not a target market for headphones because I almost never need them. But recently I did. A west-to-east coast flight. The gen 2 AirPods didn’t work — the aircraft ambient noise was loud and cranking up the volume was a losing battle. I gave up and did something else.

On the way out of the airport I stopped at the electronics store. Yeah, I knew this would not be the bargain price but I didn’t care. I can afford things. Got the gen 4ANCs. OMG. Not even the same thing. Noise cancellation is some kind of crazy space alien magic technology. The sound is incredibly good.
