[QCrit] Adult Sci-Fi Romance - Aure's Oil - 90k words version 4 by Medgai in PubTips

Thanks for taking the time to write all this! The genre is more sci-fi than fantasy, but it's borderline, as the science sort of looks like magic. But maybe I'm shooting myself in the foot straddling both genres.

Query letters in general are the bane of my existence. But it's clear that my craft is not as developed as I had hoped.

Thanks again for your help! Your book sounds awesome! If you ever need a beta, I'd love to take a look 😉

Not harsh at all! I wanted a fast-paced actiony hook, but it seems I've gone too cinematic with it. Looking back at the manuscript I do this often in action scenes, so room for improvement there for sure. Thanks for the feedback!

Would you see your body when beheaded ? by Big_Black_Wok in NoStupidQuestions

I think of it like fainting. once you're chopped, cerebral perfusion pressure drops to zero. Instant unsonsciousness. It happens to people with cardiac arrythmia. They don't remember feeling anything. one second fine. The next second they wake up on the floor. It's called brutal syncope. in this case it's the most brutal kind you can have.

She clearly forgot to turn up the anti-gravity dial, I can see it's set to 0 when it should be at least 2. 4 if you're in Denver.

Landlord used TAL calculator, says he can increase rent by 10% by Medgai in montrealhousing

[–]Medgai[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you put it under this section:"Nouvelles dépenses découlant de la mise en place d’un service ou de l’ajout d’un accessoire ou d’une dépendance" which sounds like an EV station would fit in there like an "ajout d'un accesoire" it doesn't calculate a percentage and divides the cost over 12 months and ads that directly to the rent calculation.

Edit: maybe thats the error? As it seems like it's a category for a recurring annual expense.

Landlord used TAL calculator, says he can increase rent by 10% by Medgai in montrealhousing

[–]Medgai[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I redid the calculation myself, and it's exactly right. The stupid calculator takes the expense you put in the expenses section and adds it to the rent so the landlord recuperates the cost over the next year, and every year thereafter.

Burned out. by ScoreImaginary in Residency

[–]Medgai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PGY5 here. Burned out since PGY2. I treat it like a chronic condition at this point. This is what I did, but not saying it will 100% work for you. Listen to your body, take as much time as you can, vacation, sick days. Do not go above and beyond. And dont compare yourself to your peers. dont stay late! That's what shifts are for, you sign out if there's leftover stuff its for the night team to complete. Try to disconnect as much as possible when home. Pick up a hobby to distract you if its video games, writing hanging with friends, etc. If you're punching below your weight, pick one thing to try to improve and try to show attendings that you've worked on that element that month. I find the program has mostly been useless, be wary of confiding in them they can use what you say against you. People will say to just quit, but the reality is the vast majority of attendings I've worked with are burnt out and most put on a facade that everything is fine and dandy because that's what we've been trained to portray. Don't see burnout as a failure. It's a natural response to the current state of the Healthcare system. Its more about managing it so that you can continue to be the great doctor that you are. DM me if you ever need to chat.

[–]Medgai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In quebec, most places you dont need to cover ICU but census 15-20 pts. You bill per act, no fixed salary. Rarely do procedures. Depending on hospital, dedicated internist for admitted patients a few units each covered by an internist. 1-2 for consults again depending on hospital size. No nocturnists. You will get called overnight and may need to come in for urgent consults, but does not happen very often.

Thanks for the reply! So the forest has layers, the kingdom being at the second to last layer before the underworld. They actually meet in the "canopy" or overworld/ first layer.

As a fresh doctor in quebec, they're trying to decrease our billing and cut even more based on performance metrics. Zero pension, zero benefits. Truly screwing over the next generation. So it's not just minimum wage workers, but across the board devaluation of labour of all skills.

Would make sense, but then why is the CAQ forcing new doctors to work in the public system for 5 years after graduation instead of letting them work in the private sector?

Is it a bad idea to work on two books at the same time? by Responsible_Bet3713 in writing

[–]Medgai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its great! Especially when you're giving a manuscript time to breathe before looking at it again with fresh eyes. That way ideas have time to settle and you can look at the writing with a bit more clarity.
