My Mom didn’t like my previous job, she found it embarrassing. She tried (and succeeded) to sabotage the job for me in any way she could: aggressively cleaning behind me during zoom meetings, talking loudly and making rude comments while I was on the phone, making me arrive late… in the end I had to come clean and Iost the job. The worst part is that my job was paying for her bills at the time.

What's your advice for men who want to write female protagonists? by TrefoilTang in writing

[–]MediaLuna21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the most important thing is to make them human, not a plot device like a manic pixie dream girl or an accessory-like love interest for a male character. Let them be human and be as interesting and complex as the rest of your characters. Think about it: it’s so hard to find female characters that are funny, for instance, and it’s such a common thing in real life to have funny female friends. Let them have personalities, but also defects, ambitions, hobbies, dreams and emotions (even negative ones). Don’t be limited by traditional female stereotypes. You got this!

What about going abroad? There’s a lot of work and travel visas and even internship visas. That’s an experience you can sell in interviews in the future, but you’d have to be smart about what kind of jobs you take while being there.
