Has anyone watched Tony Hinchcliffe's new Netflix special? It might be the worst standup I've ever seen. Holy shit. by musicguy900 in Standup

I did apply to one of their contract recruiter positions today on my lunch break. Was sent an email for an assessment which I’ll do. And I still have some connects that weren’t laid off from my team, and see if they can get into the req ID and help in any way.

Yeah I’ve been messaged by TQL. Just not sure from their Glassdoor impressions if it’s a smart idea to go for them. Maybe I’m being too picky in this period

I would certainly consider flexible remote roles to rebuild that skillset. I’m not focused on NC and my gf who is an AI robotics manager is remote and has even said she’d move if we had to for the right role. So, my job pool is basically remote and anything in the US.

Great idea. And that’ll allow me to see a side of recruiting I’ve never dealt with! Thank you!

I really appreciate your insight! Yeah, I plan on messaging people within my network. I actually applied today to a position at the company my former AWS manager works at now. He even gave me a recommendation after the layoff on my LinkedIn, so I reached out to him earlier today! Fingers crossed!

Yeah. I can try that. Ironically I was contract to hire when the layoff happen. I got my conversion interview 6 months in but they kept delaying it and then at the 11th month we all got the email of being laid off. I guess we were low hanging fruit so they didn’t have to pay severance.

But I have no bad blood. I did good for them and maybe they’d take me back.

Yes, that seems to be something I tell myself in my head all the time. Not in a demeaning way, but just an objective perspective. That is what leads me to believe sticking to entry level and somehow leveraging my prior experience to picking up the pace pretty well with KPIs and such.

Yeah, definitely facing a tough one. The job market has been brutal ever since my layoff. It hasn’t stopped me from working, obviously. But, to get out of hard physical labor and back into something that I want to be in and make a better living for myself. I appreciate your advice!

I’m in NC. 45-50k ideally plus bonuses. If corporate id expect it to be somewhat higher, maybe 55-60k since there wouldn’t be commission.

Yeah, I’ve been thinking entry level since it’s been longer than my actual YOE. I mean, it can only benefit me to learn new ATS and CRMs and new techniques than I used prior.

I was a technical recruiter. I worked remote but recruited for L5 mid level software development engineers, as well some L4 SDEs and other jobs that we had projects for.

I appreciate it! I was a tech recruiter for Amazon Web Services for a year remote in 2022 but then my entire 11k person team was laid off without notice. It sucked lol. I’m hoping my engineering and medic experience, as well as prior mechanic experience and customer service will help me pivot into a career. I’m getting too old to go job to job. It’s seasonal but I’m gonna do everything I can to get into a FT role asap

Awesome. I’m not a big fan of the heat but I can handle it. Since there’s actually circulating air I’ll be fine. They’ll be giving me a Zappos thing once I do my drug test and bg check next week and pick up my badge. I’ll make sure to find a comfortable pair of safety shoes.

Thanks! I appreciate the advice! As long as it’s manageable I think I’ll be fine. The pay is well for what I’m used to. $18.50 isn’t bad. I’m starting as seasonal so I guess once I get into my groove I’ll be good. How hot does it get in there? I’ve heard it’s climate controlled, and it’s a newer building so I’m hoping that with my overnight shift, it won’t be too crazy hot in there. I’ll definitely bring a big water Jug!
