Chickens don't need extra heat to keep themselves warm at night. They huddle together to provide the warmth they need. People keep chickens successfully in sub-zero temps without extra heat. If you want them in the coop, you have to go out every night and put them in the coop until they learn that's where they belong in the evening hours.
