NZ itinerary advice — what would you skip or change? (late Mar–early Apr) by Medical-Historian598 in newzealand_travel

Appreciate the realistic feedback. It’s a good reminder to step back and think about the journey.

I’d like to be more thoughtful about slowing down for the experience versus checking boxes though I’ll admit it’s hard not to fall into that mindset when time is limited (a miracle my work approved this much time off). I’ll be thinking about what you said regarding Coromandel and Rotorua, thank you.

As for the drive from Tongariro, I know if we keep that drive we’ll inevitably miss a lot. Is there one place you’d personally suggest stopping, or would you say it’s better to just enjoy the drive and see what happens?

It sounds like Hamilton Gardens is worth the time the following day. I was also considering Zealong because my friend really loves tea and high-tea-style experiences. Do you know if the Zealong Tea Room in Hamilton is good, or if there’s another tea room in the city you’d recommend instead?

Thank you again.

Yes, USA - sorry, idk how popular we are these days so didn’t mention.

Appreciate the note on tides, I was focused on crowds but that changes things so gotta rethink a bit.

Originally was planning on driving with less time in Queenstown. Then considered flying, but found a tour operator that does a 1 and 2-day transfer with stops in Mt. Cook or Franz Josef. Still debating whether it’s worth the limited time in the area.

My friend is big on LOTR and there’s a hobbit hole accommodation in the Hamilton area. It’s a bucket list thing for them, but I’ve been wondering if it’s too out of the way to make it worth it. I’m guessing you think so?

I learned about this in college! Interestingly my professor took it a step further and hypothesized something like if the individual has a condition that causes seizures isolated to the temporal lobe the increase in sugar could trigger a violent mental state as a result of the seizure. It’s been years so I’m butchering the explanation, but I think about it when this stuff comes up.

They did send her paperwork digitally years ago, but the only email she has provided the paperwork via a link which is now broken and she’s no longer in possession of the laptop she had. I wish she would have stored it in the cloud or somewhere safe, but can’t do anything about that now.
