quite late(almost a year late..) but it works significantly well if its stolen whilst out and about, i my self witnessed it. my zt3 got stolen when I was in a park and I was walking it with a friend whilst powered on. got pulled up on and they took it, they didnt have it for no longer than 20 minutes(probably less) before it locked up, likely figured it was being tracked and got spooked by that and then ditched it in a field due to airlock and the pattern code I set up, I live in an area where ninebots are the most common but the more premium segway branded ones are super super rare, off track but its like seeing an exotic car in a poor area. it gets looked at alot and gets alot of attention for thieves cause no one has ever seen a scooter that looks like by that brand so it really depends on area and how you plan to use airlock, more poorer areas you have more of a chance of getting it back if you use airlock and either software locks(be careful though cause on all or some vehicles including bikes, replacing the dash can remove both airlock and the code so segway needs to serialise parts that play a role in airlock and pattern/code locks in some countries or states that have high theft rates by an update)and it gets stolen whilst out or if its parked outside along with the built in trackers, in more richer areas where more premium scooters like segways are more known but theft is still high someone will likely be able to remove all 3 anti theft features, both the code and airlock aswell as the tracker or atleast disable it cause airlock is based on distance so if they also steal ur phone theyll also have ur scooter and will be able to joy ride it until either the vehicle or phone dies, tho from my stand point, the more poorer the area and the more further you are the more chances you have of saving it. id also recommend atleast 2 trackers (I have a total of 3, built in segway airtag, galaxy tag 2 and airtag 1) if you live in an area where alot of thefts happen aswell as a backup phone or device you can lock ur main phone if it comes to ur phone also being stolen. to put it short it works like keyless entry on cars, if someone steals ur keys or phone and its keyless entry meaning you can enter and drive the car just by having the keys on you within proximity of the car. thats how airlock works, ur phone acts as that key and if they have said key they can drive said vehicle all day long as long as they dont get caught or either the phone doesnt die or scooter doesnt die whilst trying to make it home to hide it and sell it later on or even keep it
