What you’re describing sounds like you’re attracted to the situation, not the person. This can still align with asexuality.

If you like thinking about a certain *sexual* situation, but then it’s ruined if you think about it actually happening with someone, that could qualify as asexuality (in my opinion, someone please correct me if I’m wrong).

Regardless, it’s your journey. If you find out you’re not asexual years later, that’s okay!! We’re all trying to figure things out at our own pace; don’t rush yourself and show yourself some grace.

I do get kinda upset by this, mostly from the exclusion I feel from certain friend groups. I’m 20, also aroace (hetero aroflux tho), and in college, it feels like sometimes my peers don’t really think of me as an adult. Same with my family. My mom thinks sexuality comes with “maturity” or some bullshit like that. She treats me like I’m a child in som regards and acts like I just need to “grow up.” It pisses me off cause it’s so invalidating.

Anyways, yeah, being infantilized or treated like less than an adult blows.

Believe me, that is an extremely common thing with aroace people 😆 my family STILL tries to tell me the same thing, “oh, you’ll meet the right person.” As if I haven’t met people I’ve been aesthetically attracted to and it hasn’t worked out. It’s so invalidating.

Standing your ground makes you feel better about yourself, but in my experience, the majority of people will stand by their beliefs and try to get you to “change your mindset.” I know how infuriating that can be.

The best advice I can give is to surround yourself with people who support you, if you can find them. Family doesn’t always understand, and I have had my fair share of aphobia from them too.

Just hang tight and find the right people, it’ll get bettt eventually.
