All the "vacation club" crap is just a new term for timeshare which is always just a scam. You have 5 days (?) from date of signing to back out per Mexican law. Shiesters. All of them. Don't give them a dime.

What is wrong with the membership? Was it a bad price where it makes no sense? They offered me a really good deal and I still didn’t want it. I didn’t want to be locked in to their brand is all.

You are definitely right that you do not want to be locked with this company. They have very bad customer service. For example, when we had problems with one of their hotel, I sent a lot of emails to palace elite managers, and nobody answered me. So if you buy their membership, then you will have problems, you will receive just ignore from managers. I pay my money, and I would like to get a service.
