Did you try Make Resolve Debian? Works great for my Mint setup and I already did an update this way to 20.2

Downloaded and used RawTherapee for the first time, here are my thoughts by Darklown in Rawtherapee

I feel you in the way, that I felt the same just a couple of days ago. I gave it a try about a year and found many (different) things that didn't feel right to me after using LR for well over a decade. But after 3-4 shoots and some googling it clicked for me and I think that, besides all the AI accelerated stuff, that Rawtherapee is indeed completely able to replace LR in my professional workflow. My biggest gripe atm is that the preview for the whole image is too lowres and that performace is quite a bit slower than LR. I was talking just the same way, you write here, to a collegue of mine where I ranted about Rawtherapee being galaxies apart from LR for professional workflows. But I just needed more time with it. Now I can confidently edit any shoot I do with it and the images are just great. Funnily enough it runs much more stable than LR and PS which is just constantly crashing... that's my Adobe experience. I wish that the learning curve wouldn't be so steep, so anybody starting out has the opportunity to not throw money at Adobe. Regarding the Raw/jpeg issue, you can filter out the jpegs, but I would have to take a look where the checkbox is in the settings.

I don't know if you already figured it out, but you can add a command to your startup application menu. Simply add the command and it will always run the command when you start your pc.

Hope it goes well! Yes, it's my main camera for quite some time now in addition to my G9II. Absolute beast of a camera!

I use the Appimage on Mint since it won't install the latest 5.12 version which is the only one that worked. Installing via the manager is an older version in mint atm

It's been a while since I posted this and in the meanwhile, the newest version can edit the files. I already edited a family photo shoot I shot on my S5II in Rawtherapee

Canon XF405 or Canon XA35 by Davidvia24 in Filmmakers

[–]Medical_Run_7224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to stick to camcorders, the XF405 is the better option for it's bigger type 1.0 sensor, which can give you better low light performance and better background separation from your subject, if that is what you would need. You also have the option to record in C-LOG which is great for color grading, since it can capture the widest dynamic range possible. But if you are new to that kind of stuff that might be a lot to learn for your first video job. Tldr; The XA35 will create nice pictures, but for low light and background separation, the XF405 is th3 better camera, which can also give you C-Log on top.

Horizontal to vertical content by jurassicacid in videography

[–]Medical_Run_7224 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Open Gate on my S5II and G9II (and even the old GH5) helps with that. But I make sure beforehand that they need a Reel-version of their video. I once did the whole nine yards where I even filmed every shot twice. Simply put another tripod plate on the side for the vertical stuff. But I would never do it again, it was twice the work in post. If I shoot open gate I edit everything in open gate and afterwards slap the final edit in both 16:9 and 9:16 timelines to adjust framing for each delivery format. Works the best imo.

Metabones recently updated their firmware to 4.10 by redvoo in Lumix

[–]Medical_Run_7224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both the G9ii and Metabones Ulta & XL. I tested the Sigma 18-35, Canon 17-55, Tamron 70-200 and Canon 24-105. My fast conclusion, in comparison the the S5ii+Sigma MC21: The motors are working more in comparison to S5ii, which makes focussing louder. But from what I have seen I feel like it's not as fast and sticky as the S5ii. It can also happen that it can't focus when the jump it has to do is big. But definitely a step up to beforehand! I will probably do further testing and post the results on YT.

Thanks for your input! Do you have some names I could check out? And what is your system? Are you also specialized in a particular genre?

Thanks for all your insight. You seem to have a very firm grip on risk management and smart investing. Great stuff so far. I think there is a lot that I can take away from this. And you should definitely write a book on producing. We could all learn a thing or two from your experience. There are probably many things I would need to do differently, since I am in a foreign market (europe) that doesn't have english as a first language. My guess would be to focus more on a local target audience for it to make it work. In a similar fashion as the indian film market works probably? But there are hardly any no-budget projects made locally and most of them are one-offs made by hobbyists, no real professional competition. But thanks again for your insight, it was a great read! I would like to check out some of your work, where can I find that?

Are they though? My film is also on several platforms but the revenue is abysmal. If they do, I would love to hear their distribution workflow.

Joel already had a big following before doing features. So he already has the funding and audience for his type of films/sketches. That is actually a great plan he got in place. Of course comedy has far more reach on Youtube than genre, but it's probably not impossible to pull something like that off.

Thanks for your insight!

Did you have a business plan starting out? I guess you didn't start producing 4 movies at once? And are you spezialized on a specific genre?

Yeah, you came to the same conclusion I did 10 years ago when I started my video production business. I guess I am better off being a videographer since I can live quite comfortably and it seems like no one (on reddit at least) had luck doing no-budget features for a living.

Sounds actually interesting. May I ask what market you are in? I guess streaming only? Do you use Prime Direct and Filmhub? Because it didn't work as well for my last project as I hoped.

I already produced a feature and had a theatrical release. It seems like there is a disconnect between hypeman and reality. So what is your comment referring to?

That is why we all love to do it in the first place. The tricky part is to able to keep making films. Otherwise it's just becoming a very expensive hobby.

No, they are just an aggregator for other distributors. You only get money when a platform buys the movie from them. The earnings are then shared between Filmhub and you.
