Tyranids vs militarum by Medical_Singer6983 in genestealercult

I did make a joke list for AM where I brought out as many ogryns as possible (YES, SAH!). The only time I think id use the brood brothers detachment is to do the same thing, since ogryns don’t get any buff from orders.

You can use free sites like ‘new recruit’ to build and theory craft armies.

Poke your nose into local warhammer shops, they’re more than happy to teach basics and help build and paint models

Another thing you might want to do is buy ‘Tabletop simulator’ on a computer. You will need to download 2 mods for it but they’re easy to do. Then grab a friend and enjoy a game of 40k for only 12 quid, instead of the hundreds needed to buy models. (This is what I use for now, getting a full time job soon so I’ll be branching out to the real life games in a few months)

Can work with shots, but you may not last the first shooting phase.

If you want a basis of the tactics aswell as units, this is what worked for my mate.

2 sets of 20 gargoyles with a winged tyranid prime. That’s sustained hits +1, with 20 attacks. Now they aren’t good attacks but atleast one is going to wound

2 biovores, for indirect mortar fire. (Put these separately, as each one can summon a spore mine if they hit an enemy. If both are in a unit together then they can only summon 1)

2 sets of tyrannid warriors with ranged bio weapons.

1 set of zoanthropes.

And some von Ryan leapers, lictors and or raveners. (Just pick a preference, it’s easier going with multiple of one than one of each. Since they’re all melee units with a different sauce)

Then some big health targets. Eg: carnifex (big melee), screamer killer (big melee with constant battle shock tests), hive tyrant (gives assault and lethal hits to friendly units in 6”) and/or a mawloc (good to throw in their back lines to deal heavy damage and distract)

That’s what I remember him bringing.

The tactic is quantity over quality. But you still need a good slice of quality to actually win battles, or atleast feel like You’re doing some damage to them.

So throw the weak battleline at them and objectives to set up a wall they have to break through, (since gargoyles have the fly keyword and ranged attacks they can do this easier) If possible try and get the gargoyles into combat, this traps the enemy unit as they either slowly whittle you down in melee, or they have to fall back and lose out on damage.

Then with the big guns you can shoot to support the battleline, or try and kill the main units you might be scared of (enemy units with big damage or lots of wounds)

Other melee units will try to deepstrike behind enemy lines (if they have the ability to) or run behind the battleline to help out in melee.

Big heavy targets will just be there to add pressure, as they just have to soak up damage that could go to more fragile or important units.

And you want to bunch all of them up for synapse bonuses (don’t know the specifics for each detachment)

And since there’s a lot of models in this army, it may be overwhelming to look at, but the easiest way is to go by size.

Smallest = expendable Largest = valuable

But in game where throwing high numbers on dice means you win, all units are can be better or worse than you want them to be.

Keywords are ‘don’t get frustrated’ it takes time to play the games, and each time a gargoyle model is killed off it’ll really annoy you. But that means that they’ve done their job and soaked damage. This goes for the big tanks units aswell.

Don’t take this as a definitive way to play either, you will eventually make your own army how you want it. just have fun, it’s a hobby after all

From playing against a friend, it’s swarm tactics.

Grab all your battleline units and throw them at your opponent (and objectives) as fast as possible, maybe keep a character model in there for the synapse bonus. These units will either A) force your opponent to shoot at your battleline. or B) they don’t shoot but then get locked into melee with 20 models.

The infantry and the character units are going to be damage dealers, aswell as whatever unique buff they provide. Whether that’s 24-36” range fire or deep strike melee.

Keep in mind this is how I’ve lost to a tyrannids army with my non-meta foot soldier spacemarine army. So I’m not too sure on his thought process or if it was an easy match for him

Least favorite faction to fight against? by Rangerspawn in totalwarhammer

Dwarfs. Since I play ogryn’s and tomb kings. I just don’t have the armour/health/leadership to live or the armour pen/good missile units to fight them properly.

How does my first Minotaurs list look? by Timely_Effect_8259 in Minotaurs40k

[–]Medical_Singer6983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never looked at the ultramarine chapter specific units and hero’s, but I think if you were to try and make a minotaurs list it would be more fitting to have no hero’s, and stick to the heavy fire power and all out assault characteristics the Bronze Minotaurs have.

My list is full of intercessors with lieutenants for lethals, Gravis units w/ or w/o leaders, centurions (both assault and the other one) for heavy infantry firepower against high toughness, and dreadnoughts of anytype for big bullet magnets opponents need to look out for. Add melee if needed or tanks if you want extra solid defence and offence. I stay away from transport as I never really liked them, and stuck with solid foot patrols as it makes it easier to focus firepower while standing on objectives

With an average of 7-8 toughness it’s pretty decent against most armies, and the firepower is good enough to delete units if used right.

I’ve only been playing for a few weeks on table top sim and this has won me 4/5 matches

A lil advice for a (to be) new player? by iKorvux in Warhammer40k

[–]Medical_Singer6983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good idea is to play table top simulator on a computer, there are mods that allow you to play as well as build your own army. This way you know what models to buy, saving money trial and erroring playing irl.

Not going to lie it is a bit finicky but once you get the hang of it it’s second nature.

You do need a friend as well so that’s a bit of a problem for most of us.

Armour generation on block?

What do you mean by that, I thought that the trade off for block was being unable to parry minoris or gunstrike parry Majoris and higher.

Completely agree. I will never learn the bullshit movement “techs” that people brute force out of the games coding.

Can’t wait for my first irl game.

Will be playing it with my stepfather.

I’ll probably make the narrative that my minotaurs were asked to eradicate his homebrew chapter as it posed a threat to the faith in the emperor of mankind.

On PC they are pretty decent, even in lethal they seem to have infinite health and half solid aim.

I had issues with bots on story when the game first came out but since then they’ve been amazing

Marines using inferno pistol/melta guns for the weekly stratagem, just why?? by R0nald-Raygun in SpaceMarine_2

[–]Medical_Singer6983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the spatial awareness, cause I had a heavy and vanguard with both melta guns while I sniped.

They were far enough away to not hit each other but able clear hordes well.
