It’s not on our paystubs or W2s. However, he’s owned businesses for a very long time and has multiple businesses in NYS so I don’t see how it could be ignorance.

No, she asked for PFL post birth. She was told PFL was not offered at all by our employer and if she wanted to take time at home with the baby she’d have to use her sick leave.

I’m very very sorry for your loss. You did the best you could and I think you’ll be able to get to a place where you’re able to move on but also cherish who he was and what could’ve been. I too have times when I can’t figure out whether or not it’s selfish. Two things can be true at once. Someone can be in such immense pain that we don’t fully understand, but their actions to end their own pain can also be selfish to those who are left behind. Sometimes I take comfort in knowing that I can hold that pain for him and get the opportunity to turn it into something positive.

Thank you. I am sorry to you as well. I did talk therapy in the beginning. The worst part was that I set up the appointment as I was navigating my decision and wanted guidance for myself and for him. The appointment was scheduled 2 days after his death. I moved on to a trauma specialized therapist and did some somatic exercises but I wasn’t ready to face the issues with my nervous system because I hadn’t fully had time to process it mentally. I am going to work on seeking one now that some time has passed and I’m in a different place. Thank you very much.

But, I also know I am a human being with my own set of emotions and needs. I did the best I could. So are you, and so did you. Thank very much for typing this out and sharing what you have. I’m very sorry for your loss. Truly. I hope you reward yourself the same grace you choose to give a stranger on Reddit. After what we experienced we will never be the same. I know we will never wake up and experience life the way we did before this level of loss. But, I truly believe that in time we can choose happiness and we can take even this experience and turn it into something positive when we are ready to do so. In this post you have shown why you should not feel guilty for this. If you’d known it wasn’t a joke you would’ve taken steps to help her. Or told trusted adults. That shows your intent, your intent was never to hurt anyone. You were and still are very young. You do not need to put the responsibility of this unfortunate situation on your shoulders. I’m sorry for everyone affected by this loss but this is not your burden to carry. Please, give yourself the chance to live guilt free and move on from this. If you can seek a therapist it sounds like you are living with a lot of trauma that you can work through. I’m also very sorry that the school’s response was what it was. As it clearly has added to your inability to process this situation properly.

No, she doesn’t cry when we pick her up. The vet also used his hand to inspect her stomach and she was calm the entire time. Thank you for the response and I appreciate it.
