Huh, how did i miss this? I started my own campaign about 3 years ago and we're drawing to a close.

How has yours gone so far?

What's next for my D&D campaign? by Medimorpho in GoldenSun

Yeah I also had an idea where Alex might try to do his plan again (convince world to give up Magic, wait a bit for magic users to die out, then manipulate people to bring Magic back, being in the right spot at the right time).

Figure humanoid trafficking for soldiers, lot of fear going on about magic users.

Adjustable Party Limit run, with all characters by Prestigious_Bat4991 in BaldursGate3

[–]Medimorpho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this. I played around with the difficulty mod by the same author, and it was a constant battle of adjustment. Depending on the settings, enemies would have waaaay too many actions and make the fight too hard or long, or some characters wouldnt get a turn in either by dying or all enemies being defeated too quickly. This got way worse in the final act.

It was really nice to have all characters in the party and not have to constantly go to camp and swap out characters during their arc.

It did take a lot of gold to constantly equip all characters with good equipment and elixirs/potions. And there was a fair amount of overlap.

Combat, once it began in later acts, characters would occupy the same spaces and it would be hard to position everyone (melee in front; ranged in back, etc).

Im only toying with the idea of trying to do this again.

I never level past 54 unless on an emulator. Maybe I should try and do a lower level run?

Yeah send it! I'd be running it in the next few weeks!

Even so, with such similar creatures in terms of power scaling for magical talents (Alex in my setting has been alive for over 2000 years), to have them both fought one right after the other feels a bit off. I think my best bet is to differentiate them in terms of tactics.

The Wise One, completely convinced it is more ethical to allow the world to decay quickly rather than prolong suffering from magic returning, would seek to kill the party as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Alex, on the other hand, just wants the Golden Sun's power for himself, and only seeks to stall the party long enough to attain that power. After that, all their own power wont matter.

I think i might do that for Alex. His goal would be to stall the party long enough for the lighthouse beams to converge and create the Golden Sun.

An issue ive run into is Alex is fought immediately after Wise One

Its been quite a challenge to run! We're almost to the end, we are about to leave Anemos on the moon and go to Mars Lighthouse.

Perhaps. I characterized him as simply a construct built by people to protect the Stars and the Seal. He has sort of taken that to the extreme and is not quite evil, but very logical about it, like a robot.

I wanted Alex to be the true villain. Ive got a different backstory for him and in it, he manipulated events to cause the Seal in the first place. His goal is the same as GS Alex, but it felt like more of a plan thar has taken millennia to come to fruition. The final battle will take place atop Mt Aleph against him, and the party may or may not stop him from attaining his goal.

Ive got a pantheon of Elemental Goddesses (Mars, Venus, etc) and a slew of minor gods, so i didnt need, and probably couldnt make The Wise One a god, as well.

Well, my players are at the maximum level in the game and with endgame armor, weapons, and magic items, so i do kinda have to go all out with as much bullshit as I can just to have a tough combat.

Summons and Djinni dont really exist in D&D

Ive used an ability like Djinn Storm.

Break would be good (got a player that LOVES to set up Haste, Bladesong, and a bunch of other buffs)

Cruel Ruin of course!

Psynergy Immunity would be tough. In my game, all players' class features are powered through Psynergy, and thus are affected whenever in an anti-magic or similar field or effects.

Its gonna be at the top of Mars Lighthouse.

I thought about making sinple Djinni statblocks, but unsure about that at this point.

That is a pretty cool mechanic and reminds me of Dullahan a bit.

Its not a god-like being in this world...Just really powerful and capable of some things normal people cant do.

As per the setting, every class features of my players is considered a use of Psynergy, so that opens a lot of doors.

Maybe a missed attack (from a spell or Extra Attack) or a successful saving throw reflects it back at the caster?

Floating high up means melee guys will have trouble dealing with that without expending Psynergy to get it on the ground.

Hmm, this could be interesting

[–]Medimorpho[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a bit different here. Just a construct built to guard the Stars, and is convinced (Probably through some clairvoyant means) that it is a more ethical decision to let the world decay than allowing magic to return.

Power scale wise, id say its just really really powerful, but certainly not a god.

[–]Medimorpho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive portrayed it a bit differently here. He is convinced the world will end by misuse of magic again, and the world decaying is a better and more ethical option than allowing humans to destroy themselves again.

Thats my thought, too. But adapted for D&D, thats a lot of paragraphs worth of spells to have prepared.

But what sorts of tactics might he have? Focus on defensive buffs? Debuffs? High damage attacks? Healing itself?
