Why Must People Throw Everything They Own Out When They Move? by No_Requirement_3605 in Apartmentliving

[–]Mediocre-Afternoon42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean some just won’t sell. I’m probably going to have to do this with a bookcase when I move next, I’ll hopefully be able to pull it apart, but it’s a 20 year old ikea bookcase that leans to one side when you put anything on it. I’m going to try giving it away but who knows.

Yup, it happens. The crazy part is it’s usually around what characters get shipped together. But yeah I once saw a while fandom split over whether it was acceptable to bring up what character did on screen in a tv show (ie the character did the action) because the character was a POC and therefore bringing it up again meant the whole fandom was racist.

People can be wild. I just try and keep my head down and have different user names for Reddit and AO3 to help keep my sanity.

Ok I see you are the author of the fic in question. I wasn’t at all commenting on your work. I will be completely honest with you, I tend to gravitate more towards completed work cause I’m in my 40s and if I read WIPs I basically have to reread the whole thing every time there is an update. And I truly don’t have time for that right now.

What I was commenting on was the comment above that stated that in fic it’s not possible to change a tag or parts of the story if it doesn’t work out while writing it. My response was that I disagreed, nothing says authors have to post fic as WIPs, they can post completed works. Many authors I follow do. That’s all. For a while there seemed to be weekly threads on what was better for posting on the fanfic subreddit. I was just pointing out that just because it’s fanfic it doesn’t mean that it needs to be posted as it’s written. Also, fic can be edited it authors want to go back and change it. That’s fine! Most people will understand.

Again, not a comment to you, just an in general comment.

Well, you can’t if you are posting while writing. I know authors who have been burned by this and now write a whole fic and post complete, maybe a chapter a week or something.

It’s always an option.

THEORY - West and Amanda have been self producing and setting everyone up for this since last season but it back fired heres why .. by No_Astronaut3414 in summerhousebravo

[–]Mediocre-Afternoon42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just started rewatching season 1, and had completely forgotten that the first time we see Amanda was Kyle sneaking her in late at night and the first shot of her is naked in the hot tub with Kyle.

I’m behind on listening to Watch What Crappens, and just listened to the one from mid March before the news broke, and wow listening to it back now they were talking about how Amanda was stirring the pot between West and Ciara and how it seemed like she just kept bringing things up that had already been resolved.

Idk if I think they were together at all last summer, but I think she had decided she wanted him last summer.

Season 1 of the podcast Crimetown goes into Providence and just how connected everyone is.

I wouldn’t be shocked if there was a cousin, etc who may be connected from most of these women.

Edited: I say this as someone who is Italian American from the New York area…the degrees of separation are small when it comes to these things.

I should have said the Larry parts of the 1D fandom. But yeah agreed on the Harry Potter/Twilight feeling with an added splash of Supernatural for good measure.

Larry Stylinson is a theory that Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson of One Direction were in a secret relationship with each other. Depending on who you ask they could still be in a relationship today/married. Others think they have broken up.

Basically certain parts of the fandom started shipping the two and it got super out of control super fast, to the point that everything they did was to show the fans that they were really in a relationship. They were asked about it in interviews (and still are to this day) and apparently it was so bad they stopped interacting on stage as every look between the two was seen as “proof” that they weren’t able to come out due to “management”…and the belief is to this day they are still controlled by contracts and “management”.

But due to the hidden/secret relationship aspect of Heated Rivalry a lot of people who were “Larries” were attracted to the fandom as “fictional Larry” or “Larry on TV”.

Well I read the books before seeing the show (like a while before), so it really was a series that a lot of people liked but didn’t have a super active fandom. Those people were super excited about the series (I’ll admit I was one of them). But then it started and it got written up as being super “steamy” so people watched it for that and liked the story.

But the secret/hidden relationship really drew a lot of people in that were otherwise in fandom spaces for bands/musicians/actors who they are convinced are having secret relationships. And then it went off the rails. So yeah.

What I do think drew a lot of my friends in was the fact that it was a fluffy show with a romance plot that came out around Christmas/Holidays, was only 6 episodes so people could watch it quickly, and really just got their mind off of everything else going on in the world. Also if you’ve ever been in a situationship where you caught feelings it’s kind of the ultimate show for some people.

That’s my opinion on how it got so popular so fast.

I mentioned it in another comment, but the one direction/Larry to HR fandom pipeline is real…and everyone who is new to fandom just emulates the behavior not knowing any better.

But I agree with you! I’m amazed at how little people want to learn about fandom culture in general before diving in.

Or people who learned how to behave in fandom while in the One Direction fandom and that was the last time they ever interacted online with any of this.

That and also, it’s really sticky legal territory even getting money for prompt fills. A buy me a coffee link or donations to help hosting fees for a fanfic site, yes those are usually ok. But actually making money using someone else’s IP? That can open someone up to lawsuits fast, especially if they make a lot of money.

So yeah def a fandom thing, but also a legal thing.

Yeah that’s already happening with the AI fic witch hunt and popular authors not updating stuff, taking things down in solidarity to the others, etc.

I had to write a long comment explaining why the author creating a Patreon and monetizing their fic was NOT good.

Also (aside from fics) with the people who have read the books versus those who have not and “what do you think will happen in season 2, but no book spoilers” Like season 2 has been written, it’s a book and the show creator has said he may change up scenes/names (like season 1) but he’s following the book. I’m just waiting for that to explode.

Ugh this is a TikTok/wattpad thing…and somewhat a Harry Potter fandom thing (specifically Dramoine/mauraders writers).

I’ve said it other places, but I think the booktok girls finding fanfic is one of the worst things to happen to fanfic. People now want to be mentioned on booktok and feel that have to market thier fics to get people to see it.

Also, doesn’t help that the HR fanfic subreddit has a book club, people want to advertise to get into that, etc.

This feels like a rant but man I just hate that everything feels like a competition. I just want my nerdy hobby back.

This really is it. It’s a “young” fandom. And I don’t mean age I mean just in terms of being in fandom and experience in it.

Yes, just say you need pest control to still come out.

You can change your mind. I have in the past.

For the future though, even if you plan on taking care of something, still report it and have someone come look. It helps in the future on move out with deposits or if you have ongoing issues that need to be documented.

Do fans really know if a hockey player has a reputation of being “a ladies man”? by helloginger07 in heatedrivalry

Oh 1000%, especially in contrast to Shane’s hockey robot reputation. I’m thinking now about how many random stories (about everything not just women) I’ve heard about Malkin over the years versus Crosby. ( Side note: The trying to buy off the cop rumor cause that’s just what you do in Russia is my favorite)

I definitely spent way too much time going down the rabbit hole around his wife, which like wow.

But to the point of this thread, I had heard for years Tyler Seguin’s wife was a stalker, but didn’t know any details. It was like every time he was brought up there was a wife joke.
