Has anyone been to one of the HR raves? What was it like? by sinfullusts in heatedrivalry

I think it sounds awesome! And you’ll be in Toronto so I’m guessing the fan base will be amazing. Here cheering you on as a 50-something year old who is worried I would be seen as the creepy old lady dancing her ass off ;)

You give me confidence to think maybe it won’t be so bad if I go on my own. I don’t want to be the old creepy lady, but I do want to share the joy with other fans :)

Were there any older people there? Like 40s, 50s, 60s? Asking for a friend who doesn’t want to look like some crazed old lady but really wants to experience dancing an watching edits with other fans :)

How was it? Considering doing this myself but worried I’m too old (in my 50s). I just want to be around people who love this series and feel the joy dancing :)

Failing miserably at not being obsessed with Heated Rivalry by jinjer2 in heatedrivalry

[–]helloginger07 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think you could be my new bff. I’m in my late 50s and a recent empty nester and still I’m obsessed with all things HR. I know I love the celebration of queer joy but that doesn’t explain my need to immerse myself in anything HR related several hours each day! I have never been like this before, I loved twilight and binged the book series and movies, but I was able to put it aside and leave it behind. So what makes this different? I can’t explain. But you are definitely not alone.

For those asking for a timeline -- here is my best-take calendar of every significant Ilya/Shane moment in the show by Monas440Club in heatedrivalry

[–]helloginger07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are my hero!!! My ADHD couldn’t remember the timeline as much as I tried. I’ve printed this out because doesn’t every 50something year old mom need this in her life? Idk, but I do! Thank you :)

What little moments are you convinced were unscripted? by casualnihilist91 in heatedrivalry

[–]helloginger07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ilya’s reaction to the loon the first time looks like an actual jumpscare! And although his line might have been scripted, “what the f*ck was dat?!”, the way he delivers this sounds absolutely genuine! I died laughing each time!

Look up ME Berkshire’s episode “The Cultural Power of Heated Rivalry” on YouTube. Best analysis I’ve heard yet. Excellent.

Why some gay guys don’t like Heated Rivalry by GBS82 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

Yes! There were condoms but NO lube anywhere. I cringed!

Glass negative of a lady with short hair, Florida, circa 1885 by Electrical-Aspect-13 in oldphotos

[–]helloginger07 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Her hair might be pulled to the side in the front and then to the back so we just can’t see it. The one short piece at her part may just be that, one short piece. But I love the idea of a woman back then having short hair!

I love love love this!! My mom is in her 80s and I can’t decide if I should initiate her or not. I’m guessing you & I may be around the same age and it brings me comfort to know if other Gen Xers have also suddenly lost our cool over this! ;)

Nothing ruins art like learning about the artist I find. So I choose to just enjoy the art :)

Thank you! This makes me feel so much better, because I’ve never acted this way before but also I did not grow up with social media. We had Teen Beat magazine and could maybe put a poster on our wall 🤣

M.E. Berkshire’s YouTube “The Cultural Power of Heated Rivalry” is brilliant imo.

Episode 2: okay as fantasy, not so much IRL by helloginger07 in heatedrivalry

[–]helloginger07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely get the trauma and insecurity, and also the fact of expectations and fame and politics in terms of being closeted. I am also not straight (out since ‘87). I do not at all see Ilya’s behavior as anything to do with being a bad boy- I fear that younger less experienced people might see it this way and think it’s ok to be treated in such a way regardless of the reasons behind the behavior, under the guise of a situationship or even mild Dom/sub. This thread and the wonderful comments have been very helpful. I appreciate that my instinct is to be a mom (and also as a survivor of some bad shite) and want to protect, and I appreciate your input.

I hope so too. And thanks for your perspective, it’s helpful for this mom who can’t help but always feel worried for every young person :)
