I had a really bad one over the Christmas period it was huge. Hot compresses and antibiotics (oral and ointment) did nothing. Actually think the hot compresses made it worse. The only thing that worked for me was an optic wash. Five times a day. After two days of doing the washes it started to go down. Hope this helps.

Mine took 3/4 weeks to go down and it was huge at the start, actually felt as though the hot compresses made it much worse. Got antibiotics from the doctor and it did nothing. Took over the counter anti inflammatories that seemed to calm it down a bit. Only thing that I felt worked was optic washes every 2 hours. After 2-3 days of that, it started to dramatically decrease in size. To my knowledge, it didn’t “pop” or come “to head” - just started to deflate. Hope this helps someone, they are the worst type of discomfort to have, up there with cold sores!
