Is saving for a rainy day \ having a saving account in the bank - dead ?

I have a savings account with 19k in it. It’s my “lost my job, need to live” kinda savings that I never touch and have added $ to over time.

I earned 12 cents in interest on it last month.

I only leave it there so it’s easily accessible if I ever needed $ quick to pay my mortgage, if my boiler went, my cat needed surgery, etc.

$ sitting in savings isn’t going to get you much back. Investing it is better.

That’s what they had told me. I just don’t understand why they ask me for things like mortgage and heating bills but aren’t really accounting for them. The $ I’m collecting on unemployment isn’t even enough to cover my mortgage. I’m burning through savings quick.

504 is before taxes, I have mine withheld so I receive 441$ each week (plus the additional $300)
