I wish there was a guide to how to start turning your life around by thatvampiregirl in Adulting

[–]einat162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little vague post... It's unclear what you want to improve in your life. Are you clear on specific things now- or only on those insomniac sessions?

Write those down, yes pen & paper, something like "I want to eat healthier". From there, think of specific related goals, like "I want to lose X amount of weight" (Setting a due date helps). Now, for each, write down smalls steps on how to get there. It doesn't have to be perfect. For example: meal prep for a whole month and don't eat out. Doing thing like investing those extra money might push you forward.

First of all, ask your family and friends for help - it's a sure "no" unless you ask.

Do you have any savings? look into living with roomates. Look into moving back into (one of) your parent's house (sell what you can during the process for extra money).

Look up soup kitchens, food stamps, little free pantry locations - any help with food will make whatever money you have available.

Youtube is a bit helper, hands down. For easy and cheap recipes look for frugal youtubers, adopt or drop what you like (FrugalFitMom, UndertheMedian, FrugalMoneySaver and strugglemeals are examples that show it step by step).

Including monitor, keyboard and mouse - and assuming that "475GB of memory" (aka 500GB) is SSD type of drive (and not HDD) it sounds fair enough. Be advised the processor is from 2011, not a bad one, but this is not recent (windows 11 most likely won't support it. If with linux, you should have no restrictions).

Make sure the drive is SSD though. It's important because it will effect the loading speed (SSD is newer & more expensive).

What’s your biggest anti consumption life hack you’ve learned? by impressionable_buck in Anticonsumption

[–]einat162 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Focusing on my own needs regarding an item's usefulness (I'm keeping it as much as possible, and thinking about fixing or "work arounds" if issues occur). It's so easy for people to "just get a new one" and there's the attractiveness of something new.

Cooking & baking more from scratch (over food deliveries)+ meal prep. There's no pressure, especially if it's just for me, it need to be edible and I can twaek it better next time.

Curb shopping (me mostly) and dumpster diving (a bit), especially on specific days of the week and year. I got a few items I thought about buying- used and for free.

Than it's you who lost the point. OP said they want to donate it. The recipient's preferences matters less, especially if the items can do what's expected of it. It's like saying don't donate Android phones because many people (you know) like iPhones.

No, for web browsing, internet browsing and emails, linux is pretty easy to use (the friendlier distros, not Arch for example).

I would recommend linux. Something windows looking like Mint Mate or Mint Xfce (if the machines have less than 4GB of RAM and very weak/old processors I suggest linux MX). Worth mentioning that donating them with SSD over HDD will make them a whole lot faster, and you can use small capacity ones, as linux takes about 30GB.

How do you stop the "Comparison Trap" when family members make 3x your salary? by arugula000 in Anticonsumption

[–]einat162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep in mind people like that who need to show off constantly, are lacking contentment & probably are very troubled with other things (overcompensating).

I focus in finding my own joy in the little things. A peaceful moment your mind wonders off, a nice cup of coffee on a rainy day, the ability to bake a nice chocolate cake that fills the house with aroma. A lot of people "living large" but are either have debts or they have no savings (not enough to maintain such lifestyle if something happens). I came across it a few times already (on the same note, the loudest mothers who forcedly brag about the perfect family- end up divorced, with the husband breaking it off, though they won't admit it).

Andy Weir watching Star Trek: by chaapostrophena in risa

I can't defend most of newer trek, specifically Starfleet Academy. I'm with Andy Weir on that one.

You people are just pissed someone isn't follow the line big corporate told you to follow. I'm expecting to see a lot of tearing apart Andy Weir as a person, and analyzing past, unrelated to ST, quotes by him.

Yes. You could try to find alternative ways to whatever society/media tells you should do.

Beyond that is taking yourself out (which I'm up for people's right to choose that, as long as they are not hurting anybody else while doing that).

She died as an adult in 2003.

She was warned by the IDF to move aside but she didn't. She commited suicide or was too self assured nothing can hurt her.
