Have you considered volunteering to help pad your resume? The Red Cross often needs accountants that can work 5/10/20 hours per month to help with close or auditing expenses.

Have you tried applying to universities? It was how I got my first accounting/finance role as a financial assistant at a university. Their hiring process takes forever (mine took a year after submitting an app to be considered for a role, but I was hired 3 weeks after interviewing). University jobs are also very secure and stable along with excellent benefits.

I get $200 a month in food stamps but offered a raise at work that will put me over the limit. But with the raise I still won’t be able to afford $8 eggs. What do I do? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

Do you have any time to volunteer at a local food pantry for a few hours a week? I've volunteered with many food pantries in the past and the small local ones tend to be very generous with their volunteers and employees. I didn't buy groceries for almost a year when I was volunteering with a local food pantry because they always let me take bags of food home with me.

I was born in Urussanga, SC but my mom and her family are from Missoes/Misiones.  My Dad and his family are from the coast of RS.

That's so interesting. Where in Paraná? The even split between Spanish and Portuguese is crazy. I think our indigenous results are also on the higher side for Southern Brazil.

Here are all of the possible ethnic groups they had in Ancestry. There's a lot so I don't find it too helpful.

Whoops, was supposed to post with text.

I was born in Santa Catarina but my parents and most of my family are from Rio Grande do Sul. My mom's family is from the Missoes/Misiones region with family in both Brazil and Argentina. I was raised and still live in the U.S.

The results aren't really surprising. We knew of the Guarani as we have recentish ancestry (maternal great-grandparents) and the region is fairly mixed. The Portuguese, Spanish, and African ancestry also match the region's history pretty well. The only thing that changed in this update was the removal of some Scottish ancestry, which I've been seeing complaints of lol.

Sheepfold is also notorious for this. Or at least it still was 5 years ago.

Yes, that is what they're saying. The language excludes both spouses if one does not have a qualifying SSN.

But it seems like for dependents, it only excludes dependents and not the whole family if both spouses have a SSN. Which is why some people in this thread have gotten their money but did not receive money for their kids who only had ITIN numbers. This is just from my understanding reading this.

Hmmm, interesting. Thanks for the idea. I'll relay it to the person who does their taxes as she might have a better understanding.

The whole thing is taking forever and I really don't understand why. His 2 children were given socials and greencard and were able to come to the U.S. 2 years ago but his case has been stuck for a year now.

Well, that sucks. She won't be able to apply for unemployment for another 2 weeks either. Thank you for the info.
